What is the average GPA/ sat/ act for the incoming freshman class at newhouse? I'm just trying to gauge where I stand on getting in.

So much depends on where you went to high school and their hardness of curriculum rating. Don’t base your feeling on what people post for GPAs and rank in class. SAT is a better indicatior, but not the best. It is what it is, don’t worry.

I am a senior in high school and applied to the Newhouse program at Syracuse. When I was on a campus visit, they told me that since this program is so competitive, you should put the Liberal Arts College as your second choice on your application. The Liberal Arts school is a lot less competitive. They also said that you can transfer into the Newhouse program your second year with a 3.0 GPA (which is a lot easier than actually getting into the program initially). A few students who did that spoke and they said it was great because they didn’t even feel behind or anything even if they weren’t in the program for a whole year. That’s what I recommend to do.

Thats not completely accurate. Getting into Newhouse out of HS is not completely just GPA but assume you need at least a 3.7 minimally. To transfer in after your first year from another college at the University will require approximately a 3.5.

JSIMON is right about internal transfers into Newhouse - it is not something that you can count on. Last year, freshmen needed a 3.7 to transfer. It always depends strictly on GPA and how many openings they have. It is true that the students that transfer aren’t behind because Newhouse doesn’t require that many core courses at their school.

At the orientation for freshmen this year they said our GPAs were 3.9 and SATs over 1800.

Okay thanks guys. I appreciate it!
