Cali Trumpet: UCLA Comm major admits have an avg GPA of 3.95. The number of people applied was around 900 but only 80 were admitted…That means maybe only a small SMALL number of students got admitted with a GPA of less than <3.9, most of them being CCC transfers.

Thanks guys,

edelynly-- honestly i think my 1980 SAT score was the reason why I got rejected from NYU and a weak personal statement for USC. But anyway, I talked to the admissions counselor from UCLA and Cali Trumpet, you’re right, they look at both UC-to-UC and CCC transfers in the same light. This sucks more for me i guess since I have to take pre-reqs in addition to my own UCSD major + GE courses.

Do you guys think I should just try transferring as another major such as Poli Sci or Art History (i’ll have art history pre reqs done by spring 2010)-even though my dream is to major in communications?

thx

Seph/Edel- Ouch, I didn’t know the ave GPA was that high… that is quite amazing. So yes, now I definitely would agree that a 3.82 from a non CC makes it pretty hard. I still think Idch still has a shot, especially with the ECs.

Idhc- Just finish the UCSD GEs by Spring prior to transfer and complete UC reciprocity. Most majors don’t have that many prereqs either, so you should be able to knock out most of those too. I think if you really have your heart set on UCLA, a different major would be better. You are more than competitive for the other majors that you listed.

2.8 after Fall 07 to 3.55 after Summer 09 (today)

upward trend ftw

Well didn’t you want to go to UCLA just for their communications program? There’s no point in really transferring for art history is there? Unless you just want to go to UCLA.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

lol i know right!

I was planning on participating this year too with my UCLA friends
;(

I’m a transfer for fall of '11 but I like to plan things early so I’m curious to know if what kind of gpa would I need to get into Cal or UCLA for Political Science and if these departments are really tough to get into. Advice and info would be greatly appreciated from those who’ve done it.

^ Sweet

Both of these will give you an idea on Fall 09 people and then next year you can check after fall 10 people to get a more accurate idea. But it’s best to shoot for a 3.5+.

Sweet, do TAP and UCLA will be no problem. Berkeley is under the top 10 best political science schools (UCSD is also under top 10 - UCLA is not) according to US News. So from that I can guess that it won’t be easy. Always aim for a 4.0 and you’ll do great!

End of summer school finally, SWEET!

^__^

^ Lucky

My last final for summer school tomorrow. 11units of summer school sucked.

…2 weeks til the fall semester starts. =(

Damn, I’m taking 10 units and it’s hell. Ends next week!

Why does your school start so early? That’s laaame ):

^ I ask myself the same question before every semester starts. For some reason my CCC has one of the longest school semesters. Also I took a late start class that started July 7 and ends tomorrow. But yeah summer school is hell when you take a lot of classes. But it’s going to boost my GPA.

When does everyone else start the fall semester? I start August 17 and I’m on the semester system.

I’m on semester system at two different CC districts and both start Aug. 24th.

Ok, I have a quick question for you guys. What’s the difference between Winter and Fall Quarter in California? Why are some people applying for the Winter Quarter. Isn’t Fall Quarter also known as Fall Semester? Should I be applying for the Fall Semester (Junior Year) or Winter… weird.

^ Most UCs (save UCB and UCM) are on the quarter system.
Fall quarter - end of Sept - mid of Dec
Winter quarter - beg of Jan - end of March
Spring quarter - beg of April - end of June

You would apply for fall quarter/semester the November of the year before.
You would apply for winter quarter the summer (July?) the year before…but not a lot of campuses are open for that anymore.

SMC starts Aug 31st for me.

erikuh, you think parking will be bad all day the first week? My MW classes start at 2:15 and I’m scared I won’t be able to find a spot. Argh.

And RY1, most people apply for Fall semester.

^ Pretty sure since that’s when EVERYONE comes.
Then everyone starts dropping like flies lol

I would come an 45 mins early ![]()
If you end up getting a spot super early then you can buy some snacks and eat haha.
Debit card vending machines are the best.
