<p>First of all, I just wanted to say how helpful this forum has been over the last few months. </p>
<p>Now that my s has sent in his acceptance confirmation, we have received very little information on the next steps. Does anyone know when we will start to hear more info? Should he be checking some kind of student website for further info?</p>
<p>We are looking forward to becoming a part of the ND community. From all that I read on here (and felt at the campus visit) this is going to be a great 4 years for my s (and his parents)!</p>
<p>Congratulations! My son was accepted also. Your son should look for an email from Gabe Brown about what is currently going on in the process. He emailed today.</p>

<p>Congrats to all you newcomers. My D just finished her freshman year. If I remember
correctly. Housing is next, althought not much to do except say you want it. After that they will receive a packet from the FYS (first year studies) about selecting classes. Your advisor actually will put together a schedule for you. You will have an opportunity to change it the day before classes start. They should be getting and insideND login name and password. This is where they will post your room assignment and roommate. I remember how exciting this was last year. also make room reservations for freshman orientation, you will want to stay for all of it. <p>In yesterday’s mail, my son received his first year studies packet that had ND student login ID, etc…and it also describes next steps. We now have a better idea of what is to come.</p>
<p>If I remember correctly, and if it hasn’t changed since I was a freshman (I just graduated this past weekend… wow), first comes general practical things, such as ID#, email address, and other such administrative details. Then comes registration for classes, which appears more daunting on the surface than it actually is (and also includes placement exam requirements and AP credit specifics, etc). Finally comes housing, fairly late in the game, towards the middle of July, which you have very little input in - they basically tell you where you’re living, and that’s that. </p>
<p>Friday morning Aug 20, if you need to make hotel reservations, do it quickly as some of the local hotels are filling up quickly. If you do not mind driving a little to get to campus I would recommend staying in Goshen. It is a short drive and generally easy to get a room.</p>
<p>We’ve usually been able to find a motel in Elkhart if the South Bend motels are full. We drive from the East Coast and often stop over in the Toledo area; this seems to make a huge difference at the end of a long day behind the wheel, and when you get up in the morning South Bend is a leisurely couple of hours down the road.</p>
<p>If you have any questions, feel free to PM me - i just went through the whole process next year and may know some additional shortcuts / clues. When you get your class registration let me know, there is a way to find out about teachers who will most likely teach the classes. </p>
<p>Just a quick note about move-in - it is a mess - they have tried to find different ways to make the process better, but it still is a mess - don’t get mad or frustrated. Just relax - don’t worry you have all weekend to get settled in - enjoy the process of meeting people and don’t get all ****ed off because you have to sit in a line for 1/2 an hour or more to get next to you dorm. </p>
<p>Also about Frosh-O - it is a crazy 3 days and prepare to get uncomfortable. I know some people were a little bit skeptic of whether they really liked ND after it but it is a great way to get to know as many people as possible over the first few days. When you look back you will be amazed at how much you did over the days and even what you did over those days, but you will all make it through it. There are a lot of awkward events but those are meant to get you to know your dorm mates, etc.</p>
<p>It is the updated class listing and it contains everything you need to plan your schedule. The bulletin contains a bit more info about specific tracts and programs but this utility lists class times, profs, and other information. Your first year advisor will design your schedule for you but it may be to your advantage to craft your own schedule ahead of time and present it to him/her. After all, you have plenty of time this summer to research profs and the specific classes you might wish to pursue. </p>
<p>As far as teacher evaluations go feel free to check out…</p>
<p>Some of the critiques are sincere and honest but most are unfair. Use it with caution and PM some of the posters if you need more info about specific classes or profs.</p>
<p>Ok, well Irish45221 gave you the links that I was going to give. You will not be able to choose all of your teachers (probably not many), but for your seminar classes, you will most likely have a better idea - you may be able to send them your schedule but in recent years you merely suggest classes that you are interested and they build around those. After that you choose everything for each of the following 7 semesters. </p>
<p>As for Frosh-O, a lot is held under lock and key for tradition sake, but it also varies from dorm to dorm. My experience may be totally different than anyone else’s - in your packet there are songs used for singing to girls dorms and the same thing for girls to guys dorms - there is Domerfest which is a huge dance party for all students then other random activity ice breakers for each dorm. Other than that it varies for each dorm and most again is held under lock and key. Sorry but I may be targeted if I release too much :)</p>
<p>Thanks to all of you for the information. My daughter is starting in the fall. We are all very excited but confused. We are coming in from California. We are planning on purchasing bedding, etc. there.
We plan to arrive Thursday night for Friday move-in. I assume move in is all day and the whole weekend. </p>
<p>Is orientation until Sunday night? When does it end? When are parents dismissed? Is there a closing mass? </p>
<p>We are counting on her handling all book purchases and class registrations.<br>
