NHS - nobody hates school!!

Just kidding -- but I did have a question.. Many of you CCers are probably in NHS - national honor society. What are some activities your NHS does for your school/community/ etc..

We do various fundrasiers for organizatons. We help with Dollars for Scholars, March of Dimes, etc. We have carwashes for a senior scholarship fund. And that’s about all we really do.

Hmmm, I see. In the previous years, our NHS hasn’t been very active, and I’m president this year so I really want to play an active role in the community. Unfortunately our town is really small – 1,000 people – so it’s a little hard to work at homeless shelters or places like that, but I really want to do more stuff! So far we do an annual blood drive with the red cross, red ribbon week, we’re in charge of mentoring (planning activities).

I didn’t apply for Hitler’s Youth, but here, they organize books on the shelves at the library, read books to little kids, and some other strange crap.

I don’t think that my old school even did anything. I think that they had to sign up for a couple of volunteer activities (usually with 10+ more volunteers than needed). Other than that though, they didn’t do anything.

we have

tutored kids after school

run a canned food drive

babysat elementary/kindergarten students at their school functions

participated in walkathon’s

we used to help with habitat for humanity, but they decided they didn’t really need our help any more.

I really don’t understand how you can compare NHS to the Hitler Youth…

*We do nothing. I just remembered that I am a member of NHS.

NHS is lame on the West Coast. Everyone does it, but it is absolutely worthless IMO. I have enough volunteer hours on my own, without needing to go to a club to do it…

our school does like nothing. we do a food drive, and that’s legit about it. a nhs group from another school in my area did a senior citizens prom at their high school. hahah i thought that sounded like a cool idea
