Class Acts: Admissions Staff Works Long Hours to Assemble the Class of 2015

that was pretty interesting and gave me a pretty good insight inside UVA admissions. I think its awesome how UVA reads each application at least twice. Applicants put time and effort into their application (most of them do) and UVA admissions are putting the same amount of time and effort into evaluating them.

That is very scary seeing as I visited UVA before this was implemented…

I have to say though; UVA does a fantastic job of giving the adcom a face. At most schools, nobody knows what’s going on behind the closed doors. At UVA we are constantly up dated on CC, Twitter, FB, even news articles like this. Dean J, when you first started working on the admission comity, did you know you wanted to start blogging etc? I mean I know the article said the blog was meant to be about your first year. But had you an idea that your blogging would become so revolutionary?

Dean J, I was wondering if you were ever able to connect an applicant to a certain facebook, twitter, or CC user?

theman44, I believe so. I remember reading a post by Dean J that she does not read anyone’s application with whom she is familiar. Which, if you think about it, is the fairest way to do it.

I do wonder though if Dean J has ever read an essay and immediately knew who the writer was. That would be very impressive.

Why? Demonstrated interest is not a factor in our process. Showing up for a visit doesn’t increase your chances of admission at UVa.

Sometimes, but I won’t read the applications of those I know.

Shoebox’s application wound up in my allotment when she applied. I knew before I hit the essays, though. I passed the file to another dean.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article; thanks for posting it woosah. I must say Dean J, you have a rewarding, but very tough job. There are many other things in education that I would have like to have tried, but I am not so sure I could have done your job! Kudos to you and all of the admissions department personel for handling such an awesome task with such care and concern.

That is pretty impressive you recognized Shoebox’s application.
