NJ Governor's School 2009

Happy thouuuuuughts! :D?

@Pianista: I wonder how lenient the program is about going off campus (other than at Drew). Do you think it would be too different at another school? Like I mentioned, Half-Blood Prince. =P

Hey guys, I applied to PA Governor's School, but the governor's recent budget proposal would cut our Governor's School.
Please sign the petition to keep Governor's School. These are great programs and should not be cut! Thanks for your support guys!

I'm from Cumberland County (way South), but from reading this it doesn't seem like many others send letters like that.

@fhollis218: Lol, you're not alone. Cumberland County, too.

@sethoramma: I've been hearing things about the PAGSs shutting down. You better believe I'm signing the petition.

has anyone heard about how long the NJGSS program will run for this year? the site said dates would be posted by Feb. 15th, but....nothing appears to be there.

I just checked the site and it said that they would be posted on or about Feb. 17th. Judging from that, I would say they are just a little late in posting them. The dates will probably (and hopefully) be up by the end of the week.

It now says that they will be posted March 15th, ughh.

Decisions are early April right? Does anyone have any idea how competetive the science school really is? All I've heard is how "impossible" it is to get in. What kinds of scores do people who get in generally have? I'm a little worried about the PSAT scores because I only have a 68 in math but my reading and writing scores are much higher. Considering its a science school, I would expect them to put the most emphasis on math :(.

(One of the three Criteria on choosing Science Students on the Drew U. Website)

The student must have at least a B average in academic course grades (excluding gym and shop courses) and should rank at least in the 90th percentile on any standardized tests he or she has taken. High ability in mathematics must be demonstrated by strong scores in the PSAT/SAT examination. In other words, students should have demonstrated by their achievements that they can hold their own in interactions with the most ”academically talented” students. The most creatively gifted and talented students will not always devote their gifts solely to earning the highest grades, and will divide their time between school and other creative and scientific activities. Such students can be appropriate candidates for the Governor’s School.

xatuuatx, You seem to be a very intellectual person scoring very high on your psat scores. As the Criteria list says, you have to be "academically talented" however in my case. I also applied for the science but I have a 3.6 GPA and meet just the requirements except my psat scores are very low. On the other hand, I participate in a lot of various science activities which consists of science related topics and have won sciences fairs in different schools. Not to mention the president of the science club. So I guess it goes two ways. But I still think my chances are low because there are a lot of shrewd people out there and little room because of the budgeting so you never know.

Wow. I feel really bad for the PA kids. :( Let's hope that what happened to them doesn't happen to us. I don't like the fact that they keep pushing the date back on the website. It makes it all feel uncertain.

I feel horrible for the PA kids, too. I'd be heartbroken. I don't want to sound selfish or anything when saying this, but I sincerely hope the NJ schools aren't cancelled as well. GSIS is all I've been thinking about for a few months now, and I'd be so sad if it were to be cancelled.

Guys, it can't be cancelled for us -- I want to meet you all!! :P I hope the dates aren't too limited when they're finally decided...

GSIS, Monmouth County = no notification yet, whatsoever.

GSIS for Somerset County = no notification, either.

Sorry for double-posting, but does anyone know the acceptance rates for each school? (As in, how many people does each school accept?)

Wow, there are so many people here that applied for the Sciences!
Yea, I remember that notifications should come in April. Hopefully, they will, but that's so soon! Ahh.

Officially mailed out April 1st.

And the countdown begins.

I thought it was April 3rd?

Yeah I thought it was April 3rd also. I would like to know the dates of the program too. Hopefully they will come out tomorrow like the site says and be not pushed back again...

i found the dates for the science school here New Jersey Governor's School in the Sciences Home Page
july 12-aug 1 . 3 weeks

That would be nice if all of the schools went for that amount of time. I checked the International Studies website and found nothing, so I suppose we still have to wait for the main site to be updated.
