Oops. Typo?

I wonder if the dates will ACTUALLY be up by the end of today.

Oops. Typo?

I wonder if the dates will ACTUALLY be up by the end of today.

the GSIS site says 4 weeks, but has that been there? still nothing on the state site, though.

Yeah that's been there. I don't think that site has been updated in a while. The main Gov. School site should have been updated yesterday though. Oh well. I guess we'll find out when decisions go out in a couple weeks. Hopefully they'll be out on time.....

The website just posted the dates for the School of Sciences (which was already on the other website) and the School of Internation Studies. IS is going from July 5th until July 18th, which is two weeks. It's shorter than science, but that's okay I suppose. As long as it doesn't get cancelled, I don't care how long it is. Now we just have to wait until our decision letters come.....

Yay for the GSIS dates being posted! Let's hope the other ones are, soon, too.

2 weeks until letters are sent out.

The Engineering/Technology dates were posted! June 28 - July 22.

Has anyone heard ab. dates when Environ. will be held? How many will be admitted? Will we be notified by 4/3 or 4/6 or l8r? Was it a good prgrm. Can anyone who attended 2008 give us input. Thx.

Just to recap / add all of the dates:
Governor's School of Engineering & Technology - June 28-July 22
Governor's School on the Environment - June 28-July 11
Governor's School of International Studies - July 5-July 18
Governor's School of Public Issues - July 12-July 25
Governor's School in the Sciences - July 12-August 1

I'm assuming that because they are sending the lettes out in the mail on Apr. 3rd, we will either get them Apr. 4th or 6th. Hopefully it will be on the 4th, but knowing how things have turned out so far, I'm almost positive the letters will arrive later than we expect.

I will be a wreck beginning next Friday. Haha. I really DO wonder how many people they'll be accepting due to budget cuts this year...

I love how Sciences and Engineering are so much longer than the others. :/

Wouldn't you think that Science and Engineering would be the most expensive? GSIS is really short :(

I'm actually kind of happy that it's short. I want to work this summer and having to take several weeks off would be inconvenient.

The Governor's School of New Jersey, the prestigious program that invites gifted teens to spend part of their summer studying on college campuses, will likely face further cutbacks this year due to a financial crunch.

With fundraising efforts falling short in the current economy, the program's Board of Overseers told the five participating colleges to prepare preliminary budgets of $50,000 apiece this year, half of what they were told to budget for last year, said board chair Jane Oates, executive director of the state Commission on Higher Education.

The impact will vary depending on the program, since some subject areas -- science, for instance -- are more likely to attract donations.

But directors of several schools said they expect to accept fewer students this summer; shorten programs; reduce field trips; and even ask host campuses for a break on dorm costs...

Oh no. :( That's really, really saddening for the future of the program. I know a lot of people who were super disheartened because of the fact that there was no Governor's School for the Arts this year, so this is even worse.

This also means that my chances are lower than ever. Not to sound selfish or anything.

Wow..... 30 kids out of 331. I hate to sound pessimistic but... man.... and you're not sounding selfish. We're all in the same boat. :( I'll (we'll?) be able to vote in the gubernatorial election this year. Perhaps we should vote Corzine out? ;)

THIRTY? :( I totally did not see that when I first read through it. Let's start our OWN International Studies program. Haha.

my husband says that they shouldn't get to call it nj governor's school any more since the governor isn't providing very much of the funding ;)

I applied for Gov's School for International Studies. I'm pretty much pooping my pants. Especially with that article, i am very worried. 31 out of 330-something like that, its like we are applying to Princeton or something. The funny part is one of my teacher's put in her recommendation that I am going to pursue a career in Engineering or Architecture. Thanks a lot. She probably killed my chances LOL

worse than Princeton actually...their acceptance rate is 10%.

2 days!
