I took the SAT and got an 1870 (with practice) and took the ACT and got a 30 (no practice).

I took the SAT on Saturday again and I'm thinking I'll do a little better but not much (2000ish). First time I took two subject tests, I didn't to well (Math 2 - 680, Physics - 660), might retake in December.

I'm taking the ACT on the 28th and I think I can get a 32 this time, with practice.

All the colleges I'm looking at take the ACT instead of the SAT and none of them require subject tests with the ACT. So, right now, I'm pretty positive I want to just submit only my ACTs. But, will this seem odd because I'm from NJ aka SATland?

We are from NY - also a traditional "SAT land."
S's GC is disgusted with the SAT, the College Board, the whole thing, and said if it was up to him, we would become and ACT-only school. He said the past stigma of the ACT as just a southern or western exam is fading fast, and our school has had a number of kids getting into good schools (Duke, for one) using the ACT alone. Of course it depends on each school's individual requirements, though.

I don't think it will seem odd because the tests are becoming much less regional each year.

We live in Maryland, also SAT-land, and my daughter only submitted her ACT score. She is attending Brown.

People locally kept talking about how "risky" what she was doing was at the time (she didn't even take the SAT I). I think it would have been riskier to send in her so-so SAT IIs and to take the SAT I, when she didn't like the format and didn't do as well on it in practice as she did the ACT.

If schools say they take both tests, they take both. They used to specify or at least prefer one test or the other, but have all moved from doing this (other than Harvey Mudd, the sole holdout I know of). If they wanted to prefer one test, they could. I see no reason they would lie about it.

We are also from NJ. Last year, our public NJ hs said it would look odd to only send in ACTs. I think that they are not up to date on this info, but I am not sure. I inquired a couple of times.
Most of the parents on cc say that the ACT is fine. I also wonder if the sentiment has changed since the SAT had some scoring errors last year.

A lot of schools that require the SAT IIs will now accept the ACT with writing in lieu of that. Thus, many students are only doing the ACT because it cuts down on the amount of testing they need to do. Also, given the problems with the SAT, people are becoming wary of it. Last year there was a record number of ACT takers, almost as many as the SAT. I don't believe that it will be a problem to only submit ACT scores for any school that will accept either.
