Hello, I am applying to NJIT by early admission and was wondering if their is any financial incentive to get a 1500 on the SAT compared to a 1400, which I currently have. I have decent community service hours, part of multiple school clubs, 3.8/3.9(?) unweighted GPA, and as I said earlier I only have a 1400. For NJIT and my circumstances specifically, will their be any financial benefit to get a 1500 vs a 1400 on the SAT.
Thank you,
They don’t have a table. Maybe someone will give an example. At most schools that won’t make a dent or a significant dent. And anyone who got money wont know why.
At others it might get you admitted vs not. But it doesn’t sound like you have interest in other schools.
If you have a 1400 then a 1500 is unlikely. But if you can get a 1500 then do so and it’s not going to hurt.
If you are sold on NJIT and you don’t have the time to bear down, my guess would be it’s not worth it.
You can always call and ask.
They won’t give you an exact but they’ll have unpublished tiers and maybe they can maybe guide you.
You may also want to run the NPC at NJIT. If it asks for your academic stats, then it will show you the minimum amount of merit aid you can expect. If the NPC used SAT info, run it twice (1400 & 1500) and see if there’s a difference.
AustenNut, I tried that for 1400, 1500, and 1600 with no difference. I’m not sure if it’s accurate all all? I’ve never used these calculators before. Will the merit aid shown in the calculator be the only aid available for my scores or will there be other financial aid available from NJIT not displayed in the NPC?
Thank you
There are merit scholarships at NJIT. You should still have a higher chance of getting a scholarship with a 1500. However, I can’t say for sure. You could probably reach out to students there to find out more details.
That is the minimum amount. They may grant more, but would not grant less.
A few years back now but instate S21 received 27k per year with a 1470 4.7 GPA.
Thanks. That’s a good data point, although I’ve heard it was quite a bit tougher this year (fall ‘22).
Did you mean to say S17? (Graduated high school 2017, applied fall 2017)
Nope graduated H.S. 2021, Applied 2020. Having another applying now it seems test optional has made some school’s SAT scores skyrocket. Not sure if it is the case for NJIT. As tsbna44 mentioned I would call or ask on a visit. When we visited at first my son had a 1370. One of the Admissions officers had said to definitely test again because they do offer full rides to some students in Honors. He came pretty close. Unfortunately, he decided to go elsewhere. Although impressed by the school’s program, for what he wants to do for his career, NJ is not the best location.
