NMF Quick Question

I know it says that to receive the Crimson Tide laptop as part of the scholarship package, we have to register for orientation by June 1. Does that mean we have to attend by June 1, or just have our orientation planned?

I ask because I have a lot of A-Level Exams and AP’s in late May, so an Honors orientation is hard to schedule. Also, Ms. Jami Gates and Ms. Carolyn Rogers seem to be busy and havent responded in a few days.

No, you do not have to attend by June 1. My son graduated in mid June last year. We could not attend Bama Bound until late June. He still got his laptop. Many students, particularly those who live in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, cannot attend Bama Bound until later in the summer.

OK, thanks. My graduation is the day after one the honors sessions, and I have two AP tests during the other two, so I’ll probably be attending the last Bama Bound session or the first.

You just have to register for a Bama Bound by June 1st. Many OOS kids can’t get to a Bama Bound until right before school starts. The laptops are handed out the day before school starts.

So the NMF students will be given their laptops at orientation?

I just looked at the calendar and realized that it was one month ago that I first learned about the UA scholarships, arranged a last minute visit, applied, paid fees, etc. A LOT has happened in one month! We’ve received D’s acceptance letter, but nothing from honors college, scholarship department - I get all my intel here on CC!

Laptops will be given to the students in a ceremony before school starts, not at Bama Bound. Time does fly, timeflew, and I hope your family is enjoying the college process.

The laptops are given the day before classes start.

Good question. Thanks for confirming that I was reading it correctly since my S is in the same boat on tests and grad.

Sorry I missed this…

Did your D submit the honors app on MyBama (academics tab, far left column).

If so, call Jami Gates and ask. You may need to have your D’s CWID number when you call.

Thanks, Mom2ck. I did contact Jami last week and D received her honors acceptance email yesterday! Her scholarship is showing up in MyBama as well, so I’ve stopped hyperventilating. NOW I can start getting truly excited!

where are the scholarships on mybama

when my son received his laptop in Aug 2008, he also received a laptop back pack. Could someone close to those “in the Know” confirm if the 2010 laptops come with back packs? Is so, they will not need to purchase a new pack pack. I know my son purchased a nice laptop back pack and did not even need it.

For the past 3 years that I know of, the National scholars have been given a backpack with their laptops with an embroidered A on it. So, I would imagine the tradition will continue.

Thanks for clarifying that. I wasn’t sure if the script “A” backpack my son uses came from the Scholars Program or Athletics. : )

MikeW - to find you D’s finaid go to MyBama and click the STUDENT tab at the top. Under REGISTRATION TOOLS choose REGISTRATION STATUS. Click SUBMIT, then click the STUDENT SERVICES tab at the top. Now choose FINANCIAL AID, the FINANCIAL AID STATUS for the 2010-2011 school year and you should see your financial aid totals.
