Well, then. Back to NMH. When will we be getting our handbooks?

"I'm going to stick up for aussie...HE IS A GUY NOT A "HONEY"!!!!!!"

Oops. Silly me. My mistake. ;)

Ok, this thread is advertising NMH.
I think if kids on here want to start a new one targeting specific things they should. But this one should fall. Its very biased and might influence new applicants.

i agree!
:)
oH I KNOW CHECK OUT:
COUNTDOWN TO CHOATE
^THATS A fun thread and you can speak freely about anything!!!!

Isn't the point of a thread about a particular school to influence/inform/educate new applicants? If you are looking for totally unbiased information on prep school, this honestly isn't the forum for you.

Yes it is. But I have been reading over on past threads in which other parents and kids have posted that many NMH threads ARE heavily advertising themselves. Yes a lot of these threads are biased but I just think it's desperate to increase a schools popularity on a forum. And when I say this Im not alone. Just type in NMH and the threads I have read should come up.

OK, we don't want a fight here...We will be on our way to my thread

Sorry we bothered you.
:)

Let my post be the last post on here.

GrotonGoer08 -- I am not getting your point. I highly doubt that any student will read the threads on this board and decide to apply only to NMH; however they may decide to look into it a little more, which is great.

My son was encouraged to apply to NMH because of the posts on this board -- and he will be attending there this fall. It is a great fit for him and he is thrilled!

NMH is not the place for every student -- same for Groton, SPS, Andover or Culver -- but on an open forum we can certainly continue to talk about NMH. If you don't like it, start your own thread -- I assure you, those of us who are NMH cheerleaders won't come on your thread and tell you to end the thread because you are making Groton sound good.

I started to disagree with Bball and GrotonGoer08, but actually they make a decent though maybe unintentional point. It is kind of dumb to come onto an NMH thread and tell us we're wrong for discussing the school in favorable terms, but it may be that CC's structure for prep school discussion invites it.

The threads on various prep schools are all jumbled together. It's hard to tell when you open a thread about NMH, for example, whether it's going to be informational about admissions, cheerleading about the school, or discussion among attendees and admittees. In fact the threads tend to ebb and flow over time.

This is different than the CC sections for colleges and universities which have separate conversation subforums for each school in addition to general topics such as financial aid, admissions, and the like that are relevant to all schools. I wonder if it's time for CC to start separating out subgroups for individual prep schools, using the college and university section as a model.

While it might sound good -- I just don't think we get enough traffic to subdivide at this point. Just compare the number of posts on those board compared to the prep school forum.

Besides, I do get feel for each school when I go on individual threads -- even if the thread is about swimming or theatre. The responses of the different posters and the info provided gives me an idea of the school, which works well. The stats are already out there -- what this forum provides is anecdotal evidence and ideas for people.

I think it is funny that people care if there is a thread on NMH. It doesn't offend me that there is a "countdown to Choate" thread. If I'm not interested in something I just don't read it.

Again.

If this forum was a circus and the animal cages were opened at once.
There would be a whole lot of blood. lol

So. When school opens 8/28 there are sure to be a few more sweltering days. I suspect the NMH dorm rooms are going to be rather stuffy, with no ac and having been closed up for much of the summer! What are the odds that at least one parent tries to sneak an air condition into DD or DS's room on move-in day?

hsmomstef:we r sorry we bother u but i thought we already droped this!!!

laxtaxi: thanks! :)

We are now both banned from posting on this thread

:)
I really am sorry for making so much trouble.
Peace.

no offense taken -- just trying to point out the other viewpoint. I certainly understand the concern about recommending just one school -- but I think you will find that just about none of the adults recommend a particular school without reservation. NMH may be a perfect fit for one student and a terrible fit for another -- it is important to get lots of good info from many sources and apply to multiple boarding school.

As far as it being hot and stuffy -- my son will probably be thinking it is crisp and cool. He is currently working in the full sun 8 hours a day doing heavy manual labor for the Student Conservation Association. He is on a barrier island off the coast of Georgia and has to wear long pants due to safety issues. I can't imagine how miserable he is! I guess it builds character...right?

bballprep - you are not banned from this thread nor is aussie. It's great that you both have school spirit.

To the heat issue. I'm thinking that my son will need a couple fans. He is used to a/c. We are still trying to figure out how much clothing to bring. My son thinks that he will need all his clothes. There would be no room for a roommate.

Would anybody know the number of outlets in dorm rooms in Manchester? Also, do students need to bring their own printers?

I think my son's room in London (which should be similar to Manchester) had an outlet behind each desk and one on the opposite wall. My son almost never used his own printer - he generally used the community one - his just took up space.

We found out some interesting info today. My husband's cousin (who lives in New Mexico) graduated from NMH. So now my son will be the second person in the family to attend.
