erkybk - Wow!! What's your issue. I have read many threads about how incredible Exeter, Deerfield... are. Noone complains about those. It's nice to see people who are truly invested in NMH. Is this somehow making you feel threatened??

I wish there was a thread like this about all the great schools out there.

erkybk, you don't have to read the threads that don't interest you, for goodness sake. It's not that big a deal. Just relax. Of course people will continue to post in this thread and about NMH (and other schools) if they please.

This is EXACTLY the type of thread I am looking for on this forum. I would love to hear more specifics about other schools, just as I have LOVED learning more about NMH. The best info comes from parents and students, not from materials sent by schools. I am sorry that we didn't know anything about NMH when we visited schools with my D, but NMH will be on the top of our list for our next child.

If you aren't interested in reading about NMH, you skip the thread. I skip the riding school threads and the girls school threads. I would welcome more school-specific threads!

Also, for the record, I value keylyme's opinion and think that her insight and enthusiasm has been invaluable. I also love to hear from the other NMH parents (esp. laxtaxi, whose sense of humor is fantastic).

Keep the thread going, I say!

dude, i'm not really interested in NMH- but even so, i think this thread is a GREAT resource for people who are looking for a really good school. if youre not interested, dont read it! it's not rocket science.

Agreed. This is a great thread. But Plant fan, the riding school thread is awesome ! ( I started it!) :)
Seriously this kind of information is priceless. And as a NMH alumnus I will second it is a great school and was way back when as well!!

I don't see how this thread is at all inappropriate. There are plenty of threads on individual schools, such as Choate, Deerfield, Exeter, St. Mark's, etc. What's wrong with hearing from parents who have a student at a particular school? Frankly, it has been quite useful! I too wish there had been threads about some of the other schools we were looking at.

And, maybe this thread was going to die down, but now, lots of activity!

I find it amusing that anyone would dare complain about this thread, but not say a word about the inumerable threads on Andover and Exeter. I just did a quick title search: There were 143 threads devoted to Andover and 147 on Exeter. Guess how many threads had NMH in the title? 16.

Erkybk, no one complained when you kept posting identical boarding school rankings in various St. Mark's thread. Please show others the same courtesy extended to you.

I wanted to add that without Keylyme's dicussions about NMH we might never had found this school which is a perfect match or our son. Thanks to this discussions, a lot of other people will investigate and poibly find the perfect school for their son or daughter...

Interesting posts.

It's good to see people loves their own school.

I had to post about a very interesting conversation I had yesterday at a lacrosse game. The 2 schools playing were private day schools and many of the kids go to BS from our competitor.

One of the parents has 2 children at BS. The oldest is at Deerfield and the younger one is at NMH. Her son at NMH was accepted at Deerfield. She admitted to being disappointed that her younger son really wanted to go to NMH. (She wanted the name recognition.) He has been there for 2 years and she said that she has completely changed her mind. She is very impressed with the education he is receiving. She also tried to explain that the school has "a depth" to it that she couldn't quite put into words. She is thankful that she allowed her son to find his own way.

Pink Lemonade - I brought this up for you to read through. It will give you some info. There are a couple people on this forum with students who are at or have graduated from NMH.

69 days until NMH...but who's counting?
:)

thanks warriorboy648 - just finished reading it...
can't wait till NMH!!!

thanks hello sunshine... are you getting excited for school to start?? Will you be flying or driving?

i'm ecstatic! i've been talking to a bunch of current students and other freshman on facebook... it's definitely gotten me more excited. oh, and i'm flying. i don't think i could handle that drive...my dad and i would be about to kill each other by the end. i'll be staying outside of NYC for a little bit with my aunt, and then driving to school. i'm in NYC right now, so i'm trying to get some of my cold weather clothing shopping done.

I just double checked my son's schedule and he now has a work job scheduled for "a" period during the fall semester. (Not sure whether to share that now or wait til he gets to school.) I can't remember the scheduled times for classes. Does anyone know what they are? also, is the work job every day and for the entire time? Lastly, when do they get to apply for jobs rather than have them assigned?

Work jobs are for 4 hours per week and are rescheduled every term (fall, winter, spring) to mesh with whatever you sports/ec schedule might be for that particular term. My son's job for the first term was once a week for 4 hours at a time; second terms it was spread out over three days. I know that being an RA (Junior year) and Student Leader (Senior year) counts as a work job. Not sure if Peer Mediator does or not. You can work on the farm for a week over the summer and it takes care of your work job for the upcoming year (not sure if the entire year or just a term).
Sorry, I don't remember specific class times.

keylyme - Thanks. He was worried that if he got the same job as your son, he might cut off his fingers. I believe his job said "dish". Do kids who work the farm for a week stay on campus?

I was looking at the soccer schedule for the fall. They play a ton of games. His select lax coach was hoping that he could play in the fall. I think it will make it hard to have to keep going back and forth between school and home. Ialso think there willl be conflicts with soccer games.

My son is finally thinking about getting his summer reading work completed. I want to start packing some clothing into under the bed storage boxes.

Warriorboy- my son, who will be a freshman at a rival school, got his thirds soccer schedule today. They play over 20 games this season! There is no way that he is going to be able to play with his club team at home as well...on top of all of the homework that he will have. He is a little sad but that's OK. We went through the same thing with a daughter who had to drop out of her elite choir when she started prep school years ago.
