NMS cutoff predictions for class of 2018

Thanks @JBStillFlying - I’ll wait a few days before I start stalking Art’s blog.

@DavidPuddy - :))

Been trying to explain why we need homeschoolers help but not sure I’ve made myself clear, anyone else want to jump in?

@DavidPuddy , My D has the same concerns since significantly more students scored high this year in her school versus last year. On the other hand, her school has called this a “strong testing class” and it’s my understanding that this class has scored high in record numbers since freshman year. Whether that applies statewide remains to be seen but it certainly makes for some more nail biting.

I’ll provide KC BBQ for the ledge party, with equal sides of baked beans and angst.

If I remember my prior “NMSC Letter To The High School” experience correctly, our HS does not actually receive mail…all mail goes to our district office and THEN to the HS. Or something like that. If there’s an odd mail delivery issue - be it at school or at home - you can be sure I’m somehow the recipient of said-mail. (Obviously paying for sins from a past life…)

I agree that NMSC should embrace the 21st Century and move to electronic correspondence with schools and parents, but my sneaking suspicion is that snail mail adds to the mystique. It’s like a big waiting game for the golden ticket and you’re never really sure what’s going on at each stage of the game - or when the next round of information will hit your mailbox. Also, it’s possible that our NMSC friends read these boards for entertainment value - which we duly try to deliver! Free college tuition for my kid? Sure, I’ll bear my soul for you, Jimmie. I have no shame.

@suzy100 - Thanks for calling NMSC for us, and for the Cabana Boys, too.

@GoAskDad , so one of Jimmy’s co-workers is Willie Wonka - go figure!

In another community where I participate (not college related), there’s a similar event where notifications are by email / phone call. The news filters out over the course of 2-4 weeks, and the earlier you hear (via email), the worse the news is. What you really want is a phone call, and there are only 8-10 of those and they come at the very end.

By week 3 or 4, those who are still standing are complete wrecks. Every missed call, every one-ring, every telemarketer, every call from an unknown number and we have to peel the candidates off the ceiling and/or administer smelling salts.

I went through that cycle five times before I got my phone call, so I’m well fortified for our current sitch.

Our HS guidance department is actually very good about NMF. I expect they will call each of the boys in to tell them the day they get the letter. I will post when that happens though it won’t relieve many here as not many of y’all are LA residents and my son is lucky enough to be well above the anticipated cut off. I hope all of your kiddos make it!

When I was on the NMF ledge for my D15, I went completely batty. I actually went through her principal’s mail with his asst while the principal was out of town, looking for the NMF letter! He teased me about that to no end.

So, what states are represented on this ledge? We are in Virginia.
