NMS cutoff predictions for class of 2018

I really am hoping that our friends in Texas are safe and back to normal life asap.

And I was thinking about the comraderie on this board and how much I really hope everybody makes it - especially those banking on big merit. Thank you to everyone for your info, support, jokes and company as we scale this ledge together. Good luck to all as we head into Monday!

What’s the over/under on how often we check this website tomorrow and Tuesday? ;))

Probably at least 10x for me!

luvmy7 - good question! We’re in the same boat. My son’s score is the same as last year’s cutoff, so we’re expecting to miss NM by one point. But his ACT was a 35, he’s in the top 3% of his class, high GPA. We won’t qualify for financial aid, so hoping for merit somewhere. I have seen some schools with scholarships based on high stats, not NM, so there is a chance…

I think I already said this on this thread but U of Idaho offers an actual full ride - tuition, room, and board.

Good morning, Ledge Dwellers and those in a safe spot - may the cutoffs begin …

@Kayak24 - I work from home, so it’s not a matter of me checking because I’ll just have the screen pulled up!

@MFHP96, Yes, there are numerous universities that give merit scholarships based on stats vs just NM. The AES scholarships at UTD, University of Alabama and University of Alabama in Huntsville, Pitt, Case Western, Tulane, University of Miami, ASU are a few that come to mind. Some are automatic, most are not. Most are not full rides but will pay for tuition plus some.
Good luck to everybody but even if you don’t make it there are other opportunities for merit scholarships.

NMSF and NMF status will at the LEAST get a student’s application an extra look, both for admission and merit aid.

My kid is applying to schools that don’t have automatic large scholarships for NMF, but there’s always the hope of the small awards from NM or the college.

Does anyone here know if I’m looking for a regular envelope in the mail or if it might be larger? (homeschooler) My informed delivery digest sometimes doesn’t send me a scan of anything larger than a normal-sized envelope.

221 here in Mississippi which is supposed to be very safe. (211-214 State) I am planning to leak any info I get asap for anyone it might help. I wish all of you “Lots of Luck”. Its a pleasure to see so many engaged in their children’s life and their children’s educational future.

219 in Florida, also homeschooled, will also leak any info immediately

Thanks so much to everyone willing to share info! S’s school has just extended its closure to September 5. If you or your student is NMSF please consider posting the essay prompt…might as well give S something to keep his brain active even if he doesn’t make NMSF. :))

@traveler98 so glad you are safe and still posting! Stay well.

@prodesse my D has a 227 and her friend has a 228. Our school announced in the spring that a record number, 26, students qualified as at least commended. I’m mainly interested in finding out who also made SF at this point. I’m guessing it will also be a record number at her school–there are some very bright kids in her class.

This is precisely why I think the increases will be larger than conventional forecast indicates.

Thanks for all the info being shared by everyone and best of luck. Tuning in…

Just to add another anectode:
D’s school usually has 7-8 NMSFs. She knows of at least 12 in her class who have made last year’s cutoff. There are likely more. So yes, from our view a big jump in our state’s cutoff would not be surprising.

Remember those old Mervyn’s commercials where there’s a woman with her face and hands pressed against the glass doors, and she’s softly chanting open open open?

That’s so me right now.

@DiotimaDM I reference/imitate that commercial frequently. My kids just don’t get it. ;

I’m in AL waiting with a 219. How high does SAT have to be? D18 took it Saturday and she said don’t hold my breath. It didn’t go well
