NMS cutoff predictions for class of 2018

I would like to know the answer to iahomeschoolmom’s question regarding envelope size as well. It would help me decide how far out on the ledge I need to move when the informed delivery email comes in each morning.

Also, is it wrong of me to want to hide any post that isn’t completely optimistic that changes will be less than or equal to 1 point? I would like to live in my own delusional fantasy world for as long as possible. Homeschool S is at 218 in Fl…

I believe this is not known precisely, but conventional thought is that NEAR the PSAT commended SI (211 this year) is where you will find the confirming score for the SAT, also based on a converted SI. So, you would need to convert that SAT score to an SI, and then assume anything near or over 211 would confirm this year. Some say the confirming score may be a point or two lower than the commended SI. Take all the above as anecdote until demonstrated accurate for this year.

@ccnole I’m a homeschooler in Florida as well. Really hope we both get it!

what does D18 and DS18 mean

Is everyone waiting until after official notification before sending applications?

yeah @jprtaco at least I am

how do you guys think a 219 in NH will be this year

Dd17 has already applied to and been accepted at a few schools. We’ll just send a message and ask them to update her file with her National Merit status when we have the official notification in hand. I guess we were just too anxious to wait!

@kjake2000, DS=dear son, DD=dear daughter.

I’d say that my D is holding off on submitting apps until she gets confirmation of NMSF status, but the reality is that she doesn’t even have a Common App account open yet. We have miles to go before we sleep.

@bama2000 We are AL too and son has 217. My son has an SAT SI of 210 so we are on the ledge for that. He is taking SAT again in Oct. Best of luck to your daughter. Also, where is she looking? Alabama I assume? Auburn?

@jprtaco -My son will most likely being submitting his over long Labor Day weekend.

She has an SAT from last fall that has an SI of 210. Perfect math score but not so good english/writing. So we were hoping to bring it up. Yes looking at auburn/alabama and maybe ole miss. And a couple of reach schools but if NMF comes through she will probably take full ride if she can. How about your son?

I called NMSC this morning to ask if they had a plan for dealing with those affected by Harvey. Of course I was hoping they would take pity on me and tell me S’s status but I’m sure they’ve heard every possible sob story by now, so no luck there. The rep told me that schools can get NMSF info on September 5, and families must wait until after the press release which will be September 13 this year. There’s not much hope here since the GCs won’t be back to work until at least September 5, and NMSF notification will probably be the last thing on their to-do list. However, if you are a homeschool family affected by Harvey you will be able to call on September 5 if your mail hasn’t arrived by then.

@ccnole - I’m right there with you cringing at all the anecdotes indicating larger than anticipated jumps in cutoffs. DD is at 220 in Georgia where the cutoff was 219 last year. I’m starting to fear that 221 is most likely, but hoping Art’s most likely predictions hold up or are too high.

Have a 218 in PA which was last years cut off. Waiting on a miracle and also preparing to miss by 1 point.

Waiting…anxious for DD…at her current count 17 kids in her school in TX are 224 and above… no news yet from her school .

I’ll be disappointed if we hear no reports from anyone today. Anyone else? I know my informed delivery isn’t showing anything from NMSC so it looks like we’ll have to wait another day at least.

Booooo. The silence is deafening again. It does appear that we are not on the same timeline as last year. By Sat they had two states with reports (not confirmed but Homeschool parent, etc.). By Monday at this time last year, I think they had a decent amount. It’s not looking good for news but I hope I just jinxed it! =D>

I wonder if the silence means the scores have gone up quite a bit. The homeschool kids 2-3 points above aren’t stalking/reporting and those on the ledge aren’t receiving mail

@bama2000 My son has a 210 SAT SI so we are right there…again, on the ledge. His first choice is Ga Tech but his back up is Auburn. He wants to study engineering. He may also apply to Mississippi State.
