You know how it says the applicant must confirm their PSAT scores with SAT scores? Does this mean that you have to earn the same score or better on the SAT or do you just need to earn a score on the SATs that would qualify you if it was a PSAT score?

The latter. Assuming you qualify as a semifinalist, you must take the SAT your junior year and score above the equivalent psat cutoff for the state you live in.

I don't think that's right.

I've heard that you just have to get around 2000... like, the commended cutoff.

^ poseur is correct i believe.
If u had to score the same as your states cutoff, some people on the east coast would have to score 2200+. It does not sound right that they take the cutoff score for each state.

no, i don't think either of those are correct. i'm pretty sure you have to get within a certain number of points of your own score; that way they can make sure that your PSAT score wasn't just pure luck.

^ Wouldn't that not be fair to someone who made the cutoff quite handily, with say a 237? Especially if said person had already made the state cutoff on their SATs the year before? I hope you're wrong : ). : (. lol

i never said you had to get the same score, just within about 150 points. don't quote me on the number or anything, but it's around there somewhere - and this is what my counselor told me, i'm not pulling it out of my hat.

Ah ok that sounds better thanks.
