No AP's Junior Year?

Hello all

I came to my prep school as a new international junior, so I didn't know what APs were. Unfortunately, I didn't take any and now I feel like death.

I did finish my year with a 94.6 average.
I have a 2080 on my SATs.
And have been approved to take 3 APs and 2 honors my senior year.
I'm also a deeply involved volunteerer, who has started Dove self esteem workshops all across my community. (15+ hours for 4 years)
I'm also a freelance writer, who writes for 5 different body politics blogs and magazines in French and English. (20+ hours per week for 3 years)
I'm also an active member of the GSA and International Club, I play the drums and require no financial aid.

What are my college shots? Will I be severely penalized? What are your thoughts?

You’re looking at it all wrong. It’s not a race.

YOU are the consumer of education. Figure out what you want in a college and then select a set of colleges to apply to that can help you achieve your goals.

There are great schools where you are more than competitive for admissions, there are some where you are not. You don’t have to play the game. Read the Fiske Guide to Colleges. Talk to your guidance counselor when you get back to school about where he/she thinks that you are competitive for, and take it from there.

Include it in the ‘Additional Info’ section of your application

You always have the option to self-study for an AP exam and just pay the fee and take it on your own. We have several v.g. private schools in our area that do not offer any AP courses, but some kids take it on their own. Many do not, and they get into great schools.

Not anymore, OP is a rising senior.

You’re definitely going to get into college, that’s not even a question. As to which colleges you’ll get into, that’s whole other question. Fortunately, your SAT score is above average (or ACT score) and that’s the largest factor for most schools since that’s the only thing that can nationwide compare applicants. You probably won’t get into any ivy league schools, you have a decent chance at getting into top state schools, and almost guaranteed a spot in other universities.

your SAT’s are above average. I took the ACT and my score was average. took one AP and some honors senior year. didn’t take any during junior year, but had one honors class. took an ap test without taking the class and got a 4. shocked the future valedictorian and the AP Scholars I knew. graduated with a 3.0 gpa, did two extracurricular that I was passionate about and committed my soul to it, 28 ACT, and currently attend American university in Washington DC majoring in international studies. the program beats half the ivies in IR and studied abroad for two semesters. didn’t transfer in. I’m not ■■■■■■■■■■■■ here. excuse my foul language.

you are doing better than me when I was in high school. I had to pull in the extra effort and had to find every nook and cranny to improve my grades, scores, etc. don’t worry about it. keep it up!!!

you’ll definitely get into your flagship state university and neighboring states if you don’t screw up with your application although I prefer smaller private schools with a specialized focus. keep up with the effort.
