All of you people have all these different EC's. My school doesn't offer that many clubs, activites or for that matter AP classes. I want to go to schools like UChicago, UPenn, Yale (since i was like 7, even if it's a long shot im going to apply anyway), Lehigh, NYU, SUNY Stony Brook (safety). Is that fact going to hurt my chances dramatically since it isn't my fault its my schools. But I have been doing Girl Scouts since i was 9, and I now run my own troop.
Thanks so much

You should start organizations in your school yourself.

Ok, many people don't believe me when I say this. But it is very difficult to do anything within my school. They make it so hard. And besides I don't think anyone would come to a club that I would be interested in starting..=(

Well, I was in your sitiuation. I then started a non-profit organization myself (incorporated by Fl). I think you can show initiation and leadership in this way which is very important in college applications.

As for the APs, I couldnt take much as well. I am self studying many APs instead and aiming for 5s on the exams.

you started a non profit organization?? i'd love to start an italian club because that is my passion. or i'd love to start a cooking club.

hmm, if you start a Italien club in your school with some members, thats great!

Maybe you can start fundraising organization that makes money by selling what you cook or through bakes sales. I know from experience that such organization generate alot money through sales, so maybe you can give that a try.

why does everyone apply to stony as safety? binghamton is so much better.

You can easilly make a successful fundraising organization with your troop.

No Ec's would hurt dramatically
Perfect SAT's, Perfect transcript, No EC's = rejection ... at least to a top 10 school

A lot of people on these forums don't have as many EC's as you may think. Read though them sometime, a lot of people just write down every single little thing they've ever done(i.e. science fair 2003! so and so competition i went to once!) and think that college admissions people don't see right through it.

Some schools even specifically spell it out for you, "we'd rather see a few things done consistently than a laundry list of inconsistent things" was what JHU told me.

yea, many people do spent christams 2003 serving breakfast to homeless, made a blanket for orphans, wrote article (singular) for local newspaper and thus glorify their ECs.

That's why I like the Common Ap...your best, top ECs only!

Only that might be defeated by my counselor including my stupid resume with everything on it in there...God I wish it wasn't included...it's going to be so stupid...should I tell her not to?

No, it won't hurt if it's appended as a resume. I don't see a bunch of little things you've done helping you any, but at least it won't be a stack of crap you tried to pass off as EC's in the actual application.

I'm going to apply to Stony Brook as a safety because its only like 10 minutes away from my house. I don't want to go to Suffolk, and I don't really care for upstate new york.
