So what do I do now? I called today and they said they are not offering housing to transfers.

Rent a place. You're an adult, you can do it.

thanks for the smart comment everhard. I have been renting for the apst 2 years in San Diego. I'm more asking for suggestions on apartments that are closest to campus, or if any students have recommendations on where to live.

i dont know how many good apartments are left around the BU area.. but you can use bostonapartments.com or offcampuscribs.com to find a good realtor and place..
the sites search just for apartments in the BU area..

Are you serious about no housing for transfers? That's never happened before. Did you not fill out a form or something? Transfers last year, for example, were almost all in the Hyatt.

no housing????

gah that's so aggravating. As someone that contemplated applying to BU and did end up getting into a school that didn't provide housing for all transfers (WashU), I definitely can understand if people are mad. Schools should post this kind of information before the transfer admission process as some students really want to attend a university for the community as well.

I agree with you brand. It is a very important part of deciding to apply, and I am definitely disappointed. The e-mails I received made it sound that NO transfers are offered housing.

I am going to be looking for an apartment in the area. If any guys on CC want to get an apartment together I am down. I found another guy on Craigslist, and I am sure we can find a few more guys on here/craigslist/facebook to get a reasonably priced apartment. PM me or email me at ajgershen@yahoo.com

that sucks, I can't afford to pay rent, I'm paying for my tuition and I need to take out loans to do that

Never did any apartment shopping before so my question may seem obvious, but when a site lists an apartment at 1,200 with 2 beds or one that is like 2000 with one bed, is the price for the 2 bed apartment already split? I hope not, because I don't have 1,200 a month to spend

this sucks...they don't have anything that helps transfers find apartments together? if any girls want to get an apartment let me know

http://www.bu.edu/orientation/

go to the off campus services link. Then the Search Our listings link. Temporary.

Use Apartment as the username and Listing as the password.

There is then a place where you can put your name up to hopefully get in contact with other transfers who are looking for housing. I think CC and Craigslist is our best hope!

Oh yeah, if any guys on here are searching for people for an apartment, we might as well search together. Aztec, definitely count me in if you can find something or need another person to fill a space. This really sucks that BU would do that. Oh well, I guess it remains secondary until they send me MY DAMN DECISION! cannot believe I'm still waiting for that

wat about for next yr???

It's either rent for off campus, or room/board costs on campus. You have to pay for housing either way. DS rented an apartment in Allston. Lots of students live there and it is just on the west end of the campus. His current house is right behind the Shaws...a terrific location. It was actually less expensive for him to live off campus than on campus...even including food and utilities.

No my point is I don't have the moey upfront for paying rent and I dont believe off campus housing is covered by loans like on campus housing is, please correct me if I am wrong. I know it is often infact cheaper to live off campus as that was the way it worked out with my previous school. The essence of my post was in that I already take out loans to pay for tuition, obviously if I do that I do not have the funds for an off campus apartment. With on campus housing when I take out my loan I can cover my room and board with that. But please correct me if my beliefs that student loans (eg. Sallie mae) don't cover off-campus housing are not right.

Called financial aid, they said that my loan can cover off campus housing, looks like im searching for an apartment and roommates too

Hi. I was a transfer so I know exactly what you're going through. I entered Spring 06, and of course didn't get offered any housing. I know that all of the freshmen coming in got housing, but for us upperclassmen, we were on our own. I sotpped by BU's housing office plus a couple of other offices...basically all of them told me the same thing: they showed me how to use craigslist. I was like, gee, thanks. I used craigslist and livejournal.com/community/bunite and made a big long list of places to visit... ALL IN ONE DAY. I'm from Ohio, so it was very stressful to fly to Boston in freezing cold December to try to find a place to live all day. I ended up living in Allston... paying 800 a month for the ****tiest apartment I've ever lived in in my life. It sucks. I was lucky, thoug, as I only had to live tehre for a semester.

For some help with craigslist and all of that, here are a couple of my suggestsions:

Stick to Brookline or Allston.. Cambridge will be difficult/more secluded, but also there are a few BU students in Cbridge here and there.

Brookline, well, I recommend Brookline over Allston. Then again, I guess it is easier to meet people in Allston. Allston is ALL college studnets. Pretty ****ty housing that is expensive as well, yeah, but it's basically all people in their early 20s, tons of food places around, etc.

I moved to Brookline after my semester in Allston. I hoenstly hated Allston. I thought I'd like it, and I guess I appreciated it at the time. It's cool to live in kind of an offbeat neighborhood, but you have to take the T a huge amount of stops to get to school and taht can be annoying. It's all on one line - which is convenient , I guess. But it kind of separates you from the university. In Brookline if you live in the right area you wcan walk to class.

I lived in a ****ty Allston apt for 800 a month. I lived near Harvard Av - 7 T stops away from BU... and that's not bad for Allston. In Brookline I lived in a SUPER NICE place (Dexter Park Apts) fo r a thousanda month and could walk to class every single day...the entire building is all BU students. but the building is nto very social... well, I guess it depends on what wing you're on. Anyway, I hope my advice helped a little. I'm so sorry, I know what you're going through.
