Transferring without Housing?

I had made a deposit at WashU hoping I had deposited early enough to be housed on campus. Today I called to see if there would be any prediction as to whether or not I could be housed on campus, and as it turns out I'm 11th on the waiting list so I'm a little worried as to what I should do. Housing was something I considered heavily when trying to make my decision but WashU wouldn't extend the deadline long enough for me to hear back from other schools with decisions and financial aid, so I had to just go with it.

Now my mom is pushing for me to deposit at BC since I'd have a guaranteed year of on-campus housing next year, I love Boston, and it's a lot closer to home. I'm torn as to what to do since I loved WashU but also really like BC and at this point their financial aid packages are nearly the same. I'm also still waiting to hear back from Northwestern, who said that nearly all transfers who request housing on campus will get it. Any feedback on what its like to not be living on campus as a transfer? Or suggestions on what I can do in this situation?

wow, I’m sorry. When did you turn in your deposit? I also deposited and am now pretty worried about whether or not I will get on campus housing. I’m also considering Northwestern so if I get in there and don’t get housing at WashU, I’m most likely headed to Northwestern.

Seems like it would be tough as a transfer student living off campus, harder to meet people etc. But being 11th though, I imagine you will get it.

My deposit was received on the 12th. I unfortunately tried to wait as long as I could so that I could hear back from other schools and hoped that I’d be able to without too many consequences given how early I had found out. Boo. The woman I spoke with on the phone said that deposits received in April have housing secured on campus.

I really just don’t feel that comfortable living off campus as a first semester transfer student in a city I am not at all familiar with. While I’m sure the campus would be close by wherever I’m living, I feel like I really wouldn’t be happy not being more… intimately involved with the student body.
