no interviews but still accepted?

did any past applicants on CC NOT have interviews for ivy league schools but still get accepted? if so, which schools?

i know that for a lot of schools its not supposed to negatively impact your admission but i cant help but think that it would!

anybody? please post!!

I have a kid who worked in the admissions office of one of those schools. She says not to read anything into who gets an interview because they don't have time to sort through applications and decide who is worthy of an interview and who isn't. It's random. I can't answer your actual question though.

Well it's not exactly ivy league.. but I got into chicago ea without an interview. Penn also hasn't gotten to any kids from my school and I'd be very surprised if they reject some of them. They don't screen for interviews. It's just random and they understand that not everyone had the opportunity to get one.

If you had the chance for one, and you didn't take it, I could see how that might hurt you.

If you didn't even try, it might hurt you.

If you tried to get one and there wasn't one available, it would be easy to understand.

Interviews are another way to show interest in the school or compete with other applicants in a very competitive pool... If one applicant had the chance for an interview and refused and another equally qualified applicant took the interview when he/she had the chance, I think the latter would be accepted.

I guess you're looking for anecdotes?
I got accepted (Penn) without an interview.

thanks for the posts!
and brillar, i didn't try to get interviews until recently (although at this point it seems to be too late). i remember checking all the school websites a while back and they basically said they would contact us, and not the other way around. did they still expect us to show interest by calling them?? i kind of regret doing not doing that now.

I'm not sure about the Ivies- the schools that I applied to either had a box in their application about requestion an interview, or some expected you to call them on your own and set up an interview/visit.

Interviews help borderline applicants, so if you still have good stats/ECs/essays, you should be okay.

Double-check the websites to see if you can get any last minute interviews, but if you can't, then don't worry about it.

I was accepted to Brown w/o an interview.

i got a likely letter from dartmouth & i'm like the only kid at my school who didnt get an interview. I think even tho its mostly random, they prbly wont interview the kids they have rejected immediately right?

aznfishy: I interview for one of the HYP colleges. The contact information for the applicants comes to my area coordinator very shortly after the application is rec'd. There's no "pre-determination" of the candidates' viability in terms of assigning interviews.

It's known that interviews are NOT required. Most often, if one is not offered, it's due to the fact that a volunteer was not able to be matched with the student -- totally unrelated to the candidates' viability.

Coincidentally, we have no info whatsoever about the students either except for potential area of study.

My D got accepted into UPenn w/o interview in 2006.Her friend in the same area got interview but no admission. FYI

dukes not an ivy, but pretty close i guess...but a classmate of mine, was called for an interview and actually rejected and then, he got a likely letter this week. we live in NC, but still. hahah

I applied to Columbia's Fu Foundation SEAS. Never got an interview, but instead I got a likely letter this month. So let yourself be surprised! You may never know what to expect.

no interview accepted EA Yale

Penn w/o interview.

Some schools, turning down an interview opportunity can hurt you (but not being offered one - say if there's no interviewers available in your area -won't hurt) MIT is one example.

s accepted ed to upenn without an interview

columbia w/o, and the alumni interviewer for our area is a teacher at my school who knows me by name.

no interview. Cornell.
