So here’s the situation- I take some online classes through my high school just due to scheduling reasons. It was through a program called Edgeneuity. I went through the class and finished with an 84 (keep in mind I did get behind near the end of the class but I still caught up) Anyway, this class is through a virtual school, not my high school, and they put in the grade book that I had a bunch of 0s and such for getting behind(even on stuff I had done on time). So now I have a 66 in the class and am ineligible to graduate as it’s a required class. I contacted the head of the school and that “teacher” and both didn’t really care enough. Is there anything I can do to make up this credit fast? Like are there any tests to test out of the credit for a class? Because I did all of the work, they just will not give credit for it. Thanks!
Most schools have a stated policy on late work ie. 1 day late = 10%/5 pts off, 3 days=50%, 5 days = 0 etc. So even though you may have done the work, it was turned in at the point that it hurt your grade. What was the online program’s grading policy? At this point, you should have evidence of when you turned in the work (time stamp, email etc) and can compare it to the grading policy. If the grade does not align with your evidence that you should receive credit for the work then you have a valid argument. If not, you legitimately failed the class and your only recourse is to take it again over the summer. Sure you might be able to CLEP certain classes for college credit, but it is up to your HS/school district/state to determine the credentials necessary to graduate, passing a test doesn’t fix the actual course grade. You are going to have to talk with your physical school and see what the policy is and if they are willing to work with you. Most likely you will have to retake the class.
If you got 0’s for things you handed in on time (and can show proof) and correcting those errors would lead you to pass the class then you have a legitimate complaint you should take up with the online school (and perhaps ask your guidance counselor to help you if it is an organization your HS works with regularly). Otherwise look into making it up over the summer.
It will cost you, but will they allow you to complete a class through BYU’s online high school program? Those are self-paced, and you could potentially complete a similar class fairly quickly. How long do you have?
