Ouch, I got this talent/special circumstances questionnaire from UCLA but only the anonymous one from UCB…according to my stats, it’s most likely that I’m borderline for the former and not even being considered by the latter =/

btw i’m seeing a lot of familiar usernames from USC forum xD

what are your guys’ stats for if you got the supplement from LA? cuz i got it from LA and i thought i hadd a good chance at getting in.
my uc gpa is 3.67 uw, 4.05 w, 2290 sat

I have a 2300 sat and 3.75 uw gpa and got the supplemental prompts about talent and disability/special circumstances. Am I borderline?!? Shooooooot…

uhh…well, if you’ve received this supplement with no invitation to apply for a regents scholarship, then mostly likely you’re borderline

just work on your essay and write some good essays and i’m hoping some good essays will help get us in =

the AP English teacher at our school (also a private colleg counselor off campus) says the supplement means UCLA wants to accept you, but needs you to have a little bit of push to be 100% accepted, which is where the essays come in

high test scores (2300+), low gpa (not just for ucb+ucla, but for several UC’s), essays excellent (IMO and many others), lots of EC’s, no hooks, and no supplemental…:(

Unless my super essay won them over, i probly didnt get in. Strangely, I was accepted very recently by UC Irvine tho…

For anyone else who wants to compare, I received the questionnaire last week and I have a 4.05 UC GPA, 1900 SAT (really bad 560 math score). On the other hand I had really strong prompts and great extra-curriculars. @Jiapet, I hope what your AP English teacher said is right. It does sound logical.

@marmar16
hopefully she’s right ><…just gotta cross your fingers and write those essays haha.

anyways…mine’s due tommorow ( i’m not sure if everyone’s is), but I was just wondering if you guys were going for more of a straighforward essay like “These are my circumstances and here’s how they affected my academics”, or “Here’s what I wrote as my achievement/talent and it’s important because…”
or did you guys do more of a narrative/story format like most people do for the actual college applications, where originality was key?
One last thing, do you guys think my describing my job as a swim coach and how my “talent” is patiently helping people gain confidence in themselves (which i describes using a circumstance with one of my students) is appropriate for the prompt:
"In your application you may have mentioned an extraordinary talent/skill or academic achievement. This may include participation in Junior Olympics, national debate competitions, recognition for musical talent, etc. Please take this opportunity to share with us more detailed information about the level of your achievement, depth of participation, and passion for this particular area. "

i got mine yesterday and i’m kind of surprised i would even get it because i have a 3.5 Unweighted gpa and 32 act. barely any ec’s. and average essays?

but theres this part that says to record your first semester grades,… you think they’ll mind if i round up or down or do i have to be specific, cause i’m not even sure what they really are yet since they didnt send out our report cards. for example i should just put A instead of A- or B instead of B+?

@Jiapet, i talked to my counselor (a former UCLA admissions person) and she said straight forward is way better.

thanks, i just submitted my essays already as narratives ><…but whatever. hopefully they’re good enough.

if you don’t have your first semester grades yet, don’t guess if you’re not sure what your final grade it, because it will be hard to explain a discrepancy if you do get accepted later and they match your supplement with your final transcript( or that’s how i see it)

for second semester, you can write in-progress since it’s only been a few weeks into second semester

Most of you guys probably have nothing to worry about. I had 3.7 weighted and 1780 SATs and still somehow received a supplemental. But then my essay were pretty rad, and my EC were good. So fingers crossed, I didn’t think I had a chance at all.
