No reply from Rice?

I sent Rice my Part I of the application about a week and a half ago, but haven't gotten a response back yet. Rice has not replied to emails and I haven't yet had a chance to call. Anybody else having this problem?

ALSO - once I submit my Part I of the app, can I still send the Common App + Supplement to complete my application?

Thanks

Nor has rice applied to my emails...kind of a turn off from the school

I applied early decision and sent several e-mails asking questions about the application and I never heard back. And it was not like I was applying last minute either in fact I had my entire application in about a month before the deadline. So don't expect any replies. I was a little disgusted as well considering all of my other schools reply immediately no matter how incipid the question.

Could the problem be a typo on the Rice website? It has their email listed as admi@rice.edu

I can't help thinking it's supposed to be 'admit'

BTW, I'm planning to apply ID, but if I don't get this straightened out, I might wind up in RD...

the "admi" address is correct - I just checked from an email they sent me.

Good luck getting a response. Maybe you should call them? I called last week and whoever answered the phone had found something in my app within 30 seconds.

they don't respond to emails because they have so many. call them. and they MIGHT respond.

I would encourage you to read their website. They say that they get hundreds of emails daily, and may not be able to get back to you immediately. They politely encourage you to read the website q&a's and see if your questions can be answered there. If not, they suggest that you call. While yes, it would be nice to get a response to your email, who knows what might be hindering their ability to respond promptly. I'd suggest that rather than send more emails, just pick up the phone.

Please don't let the admissions department keep you from applying to Rice! My DD had AWFUL experiences with the admissions department, and almost didn't apply after the reception she got from a lady who scheduled appointments. She is now a sophomore at Rice and just loves it. You might think the admissions department has something to do with the tone of a college, but it doesn't. Once you are at a college, you have absolutely NO contact with the admissions department; your contact is all with the wonderful professors and students that make Rice so great. So give them a while to respond to your emails and if that doesn't work, please call.

Hi anxiousmom-
I remember your initial angst with the admission folks, and your being SO GLAD that didn't deter DD from having the wonderful experience she is.

My s. actually had a lot of contact with the admissions office during his freshman year. He hosted several prospies last year, and probably will again when he lives back on campus next year). The admissions folks are apparently quite pleasant once you are actually ADMITTED :)
As an aside, I believe my s. said that every one of the prospies he hosted were accepted to, and are attending Rice. Thats pretty cool, huh.

When I applied, I also had communication problems with Admissions. I called them and got everything figured out. It turned out well.

Yeah, I do plan on calling - the only problem is, the office only takes calls during normal business hours, during which I'm at school and busy with other stuff. I guess I'll find some time on Monday (lunch, maybe) to give them a call.

A positive word about the admissions process.....yesterday my daughter received an email telling her that she now had an I.D. number and pin which she could use on the Rice website to check the status of her application. FYI she mailed her application on Thursday, October 27th, and received the email about 2.5 weeks later. Hope this helps someone out there!

Rice finally replied, and the reason they didn't reply earlier was because I emailed my regional rep and she was traveling around the country. Now I feel better about applying!

Also, for anyone else, make sure Rice emails don't go to your junk mail!

I called them a bit ago, and they said it would be fine to send in Part I of Rice's app and then continue with the Common App and supplement. That's what I did at least...
