I chose Univ. of South Carolina Honors over Economics at Duke because the money unfortunately just wasn't there for me to go to Duke.

I was considering NYU my junior year but then I realized that I'd pick UNC over NYU and that I was definitely going to get into UNC. And when I visited Columbia, I realized that I would never be able to handle NYC as my college town, especially when the campus is the size of a front yard.

haha... NYU doesn't have a campus does it? but i guess it has a city... where u can go clubbing every night

I did it. I turned down Cornell, CMU and Berkeley to go to the University of Minnesota Honors IT. I didnt feel the click at Cornell (which at the time was my top choice) and berkeley jsut wasnt worth the money... whatever im close to home, in a quasi familiar environment, and will know a ton of people. its good enough for me. what gets me is all the time put into taking the SAT's over and over, the princeton review, the SAT II's and all the money spent paying for the tests, transcripts, test scores, application fees, traveling costs... all to go 30 mins from home. but at least now i made an 'educated' choice so i'll hopefully have less to no regrets.

I ran into an old friend in my postPassover trip to the bakery. (this is where she & i catch up on life) Her husband & eldest s are Columbia grads. Youngest S was accepted to Columbia , but chose U of Mich because he felt it was warmer (not weatherwise!) & he would have a better social network. A number of friends form his religious summer camp were going there.

I turned down Brown, Berkeley, and USC Film school for UCLA Regents.

My neighbor's son turned down Penn and Yale for Wiscossin. (he rows)

Counthaku, the four year guaranteed parking spot may be worth it alone!

i turned down Cornell ILR and Emory for the honors University of Florida- I get full tuition there, and no $$$ from either of the other two schools.

My daughter turned town Duke University for Middlebury College and is blissfully happy! No difference in money....

My friend turned down Notre Dame for Grenell University (in the middle of Iowa). She said she clicked better with the students and liked the smaller classes (and got a $14000 scholarshiip).

Grinnell is a great school.

bsonln,
I decided to go to Boston U....tough decision -- Penn State upped the scholarship from 2500 to $5,000 a year, plus I got $2,000 from the College of Communications...so it turned out to be like 14,000 a year, while Boston is in the high 20's....
what is your son majoring in at PSU?

my friend turned down harvard for holy cross

:/

one person i know turned down dartmouth for univ of arizona (full ride).
another person turned down harvard for northwestern (music/physics double major)

what are the differences between the different colleges at psu?... the only one listed on here is university park

Other than the UCs, I believe NYU gets the most applications in the country with 33,889. Very impressive.

and other than like the state schools like ohio state and penn state, right?

Nope, Penn State and Ohio State both receive less.

where do u guys get these datas?
