What do you all think about President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize? Good, bad, right, wrong, helpful, destructive? How will it affect the course of things in his administration? Are people taking this too far? Let's get a good discussion in here but not be critical!

How can you have a discussion without having different sides (critical being one of them)?

^ yeah… >.>

I’m very liberal. I campaigned nearly 40 hours a week for Barack Obama. I’ve defended much of his agenda.

He did not deserve the award. The nominations were made 10 days into his administration. Nothing he did justified the award. Will Gitmo close? Hopefully? Will the wars end? Hopefully (although I’m growing doubtful). But for now, none of those things have been done.

Not even his most ardent supporters really believe he deserved it.

I’m pretty sure his staff was like “how do we deal with this ****”…

damn u nobel!

[Nobel Committee Admits Getting into Derivatives Trading in Giving Peace Prize to Obama | World | AlterNet](http://www.alternet.org/world/143210/nobel_committee_admits_getting_into_derivatives_trading_in_giving_peace_prize_to_obama)

Obviously this Nobel Prize was awarded for political and economic reasons.

The nobel peace prize is now officially a joke.

I don’t think he was the best candidate to receive it; however, once he realizes his goals for America he will deserve it.

Even a lot of africans/african americans are pretty skeptical of the prize. I as an ardent obama supporter am completely disapointed by the decision to give the Nobel prizeto Obama- he did not deserve it.

I just think that the award over-eumulates Obama. He could be republican or democrat, have the right or wrong plans, whatever, but it is a bit scary that he is becoming an idol. I think it’s showing the public’s generally tendency to be swayed by oratory and confidence. This isn’t necessarily bad, just unhealthy.

How does it show the public’s general anything? He was chosen by a small panel in Norway.

I feel bad for him over this whole thing. He’s being criticized and chastised for receiving it, but it’s not like he asked for it! I’m sure he went and begged the committee for this prize just so it could tarnish his reputation even more (sarcasm).

All in all, he didn’t deserve it. I’m as liberal as they come and a staunch Obama supporter (although I think he is being way too passive on MANY human rights issues- ie gay rights and health care) and he needs to get universal health care, anti-discrimination laws, and other human rights laws passed before he should’ve even been considered.

I think people need to stop being haters. I support Obama and I’m strongly starting to think that whatever Obama does, good or bad, the “Obama-haters” will do whatever they can to disagree with everything he does, just to oppose him. Obama is an idol to many people and he even said in his speech that he doesn’t believe he deserves it.

“Let me be clear: I do not view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments, but rather as an affirmation of American leadership on behalf of aspirations held by people in all nations,” he said at the White House. “To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize.” ([Obama Wins Nobel Peace Prize](<a href=“HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost”>HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost))

Well I think it was a bit premature, but I think he might deserve it if he accomplishes any of what he said he would do.

I am liberal and support the president in most cases.

Did he deserve it? No.
