Hello, I was documented at my current school for a noise violation and living standards violation. No alcohol/drugs were involved of any sort. I am filling out the common app now, do I have to say yes to the question: "Have you ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at any educational institution you have attended from the 9th grade (or the international equivalent) forward, whether related to academic misconduct or behavioral misconduct, that resulted in your probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from the institution?"

Also, could those documentations hurt my chances? I am applying as a transfer to Tufts, U of R, Brown, Cornell, UPenn, and Dartmouth.

…did it result in “your probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from the institution?”

If yes, then answer yes.

Well that is a something I am slightly confused about. It put me on “housing probation” which is another word for the first warning of 3 warnings before you could potentially lose your housing. And it’s not actually from the university, just from housing, so I’m don’t know if it counts.

I’m no expert on this, but it seems like it could go either way. I suggest you talk to your school administration as they will have to answer the identical question in the College Official’s form. If they don’t consider it a true probation, then you don’t have to either; but you definitely don’t want to have an answer in conflict with what they say.

Schools ask this question for a reason. If it is considered behavioral misconduct and you are on probation, wouldn’t you suspect that this might have some bearing on your transfer admissions? After all, most, if not all, of the schools on your list have relatively low transfer rates and get many more qualified applicants than they have room for.
