Nomination

I found out today that I got chosen for an interview by Sen. Arlen Specter (PA). I'm excited. :) Unfortunately it's on the same day that WOULD be States for volleyball, but we don't even know if our team will make it passed the game we need to win to get into the tornament play. Even if we do make it, oh well... I'll have to drive up after my interview (thankfully its at 9!). :p

Ooo, I hope I get an interview with him! I live near Philly, but haven't heard anything from him yet. "I seemed to hear a hiss, and the green snake of jealousy, rising on undulating coils from the moonlit balcony, glided within my waistcoat, and ate its way in two minutes to my heart's core."

:)
I hope it goes well for you!

Check your e-mail -- that's how they contacted me.

Ok, thanks. I'll check right away.

Hmmm, email you say? I'd better check mine. I'm from Harrisburg.

Up here in Maine (where we only get less than 50 academy application a year), interviews are required by all.

So, really, the majority of kids DO get a nomination, as all the offices contact eachother and nominate a different group of kids.

Yep. An e-mail. I had to e-mail back confirming that I'm attending the interview, so I'm almost positive they aren't sending letters.

I'm pretty sure that in PA there's more than 50 applicants for a senatorial nomination... :o

They all talk in PA too. None get double noms, at least through the MOCs and Senators. Unlike Maine though, a great many here in PA do not get a nom. Too many good candidates for too few politicians. I THINK last year there were 175 candidates for the Senator.

I got an email too...Nov. 9 here I come! Does anyone know when the Senators from PA usually decide who gets the nominations?

Senator Schumer here in NY says he gets over 600 applicants each year (probably for all 4 SA's)... he only interviews the top 25

Those of you in PA - all this talk about a nomination by a Senator - I seriously hope you all applied to your Congressman/woman - you stand a much better chance of getting a nomination from that office - and being at the top of their slate. Remember if your CP ranks and you are #1 OR you are the academies #1 pick from the slate AND you are 3-q'd you win an appointment.
One youngster from PA was 3-q'd early and won his congressional - received his appointment as a Christmas present! ;)

Also, keep in mind your interview will NOT be with either Senator Specter or Casey -(or even most likely the congressman) they have a committee. Last year Senator Specter's board interviewed across the state in about 3 days. You all probably won't even be interview by the same people.

My daughter was interviewed by Santorum, then Specter then her CP last year (all in a week). Her CP interview was by far the most challenging. The Senator's boards were all "really nice" and friendly - made her feel comfortable.
I am not sure when the Senator's announce their nomination picks. She got a very nice rejection letter from Sen. Specter, nothing from Santorum (election loser) and a very nice phone call from her congressman the Sunday before Christmas (of course she was out shopping!) advising her of her nomination.

You should find out by Christmas of your nomination status - Good Luck!

JustAMomOf4 is on the $$. The principal nominees should hear very soon after the process is completed. It seemed to us that the interviewing process for the Senators was a formality, i.e. that there was input, but essentially the nominees had been identified earlier. Specter's bunch was very nice, very superficial. Santorum's was ... well it doesn't matter and Casey's a first-timer. Indeed, go for them all, worry most of the MOC where chances are better.

Sadly, my Congressman (Dent) can't give a nomination because something happened so that all his five slots are still filled. It really sucks. The Senators and the VP are the only ones that can give me a nomination. However, Congressman Dent's panel still interviewed for the Naval Academy in case someone drops out. I had my interview on Saturday. It was pretty difficult. There was this one guy who hated everything I had to say. He may have just acted like that to everyone to see if they would melt under the pressure.

Thats really unfortunate that your congressman can't give out noms, because PA is extremely competitive (atleast it was my year). My only advice is at this point you need to do anything and everything you can do get an appointment (and nom) from anywhere. Your only limited by what you can think up (my nom came didnt come in until the end of march).

I'm not eligible for a Presidential nomination, but I did apply for a VP nomination. Are there any other options I can think up short of moving to another congressional district? :)

My interview is November 9th too! But I live in Philadelphia, and that's where my interview is. I'm excited.

I also applied to Casey and my congressman is Bob Brady. I'm aware that we won't be getting interviewed by them, although it would be really cool to meet them :p.

Here in CA, my son found out about his interview via snail mail. It was right before Christmas, then, the Congressman and his office staff took time out for Christmas and New Years. This delayed the notification just a bit. He found out about the nomination by looking at his application on line before he received a letter from his congressman.
