Non-CS applying to Purdue

I know that the Computer Science and Engineering programs are very competitive at Purdue and I would think that skews the stats up on the general overall scores of those accepted into Purdue. How competitive are other programs at Purdue. My D is interested in Interior Design which is part of the Liberal Arts school and having a hard time getting a feel for where she stands. She is retaking the SAT in March and based on her first attempt I think a 1200-1250 is where she may fall and her GPA is 3.7 UW. She would be in State.

You might look at Purdue’s Data Digest, here, https://www.purdue.edu/datadigest/, under the link for “Applications, Admits, and Matriculations”. It is interactive, so you can input the parameters that most apply to you (for example, you can input “Resident” under the “Residency” tab; and “Liberal Arts” under the “College” tab). Based on your input, the Data Digest will generate information and create some graphs/charts from which you may be able to make an estimate of your chances. Also, there should be a table at the bottom which gives the admission rates (and yield) for students matriculating in the Fall semesters of the past 10 years in your particular college of interest.

You can also look at Purdue’s Common Data Set, here, https://www.purdue.edu/oirae/resources.html. Part C7 tells you what admissions factors Purdue considers to be “very important,” “important,” “considered,” and “not considered”; Part C9 of the CDS gives the median 50% for both SAT and ACT scores, as well as the percentage of the entering first-year class falling within certain ranges of SAT and ACT scores.

Thanks. I’ve been to the data digest before but might not have had the right filters on it. I think I got it this time.

According to the Data Profile for the Liberal Arts college, the average GPA is a 3.5 and 1200 SAT. I think your daughter will be a good match.
