Non-Named Scholarships

Does anyone know anything about how much UD tends to give out in merit money beyond the named scholarships that people compete at the scholars' weekend for? Or, for that matter, what do your stats have to be to get money, how much goes to OOS, etc.

bumpity? or did I ask a silly question

Okies, I'll stop trying to cloak the real purpose of this thread- could anyone who is familiar with UD please tell me if I stand a chance at getting a decent scholarship from them? Here's my stats

If it's relevant, my intended major at UD is Continental European Studies- so not something that's very common.

Dude, ur stats are better than mine and I got full academic offers from Brown, Pepperdine, NYU, Hood, and Columbia.....and good offers from a bunch of others. In fact, the only college I haven't heard from is UD. Go figure? I didn't get an invite to the scholars weekend either. My rents said that they called last week, but I wasn't home. They didn't say "the check was in the mail" like they did to whistle pigs kid - but w/e. I'm just glad my rents aren't in my business like the other rents on this site....I mean geez....have some respect fer ur kid.

Ivy League does not offer Merit $$

Mom43, maybe not merit per se, but Ivies do offer scholarships and grants. They have huge endowments and lots of $$ to offer. If a student is qualified they should never hesitate to apply to an Ivy because of the cost.
Our 1st D's COA to her Ivy is lower than the COA for D #2 to go to UDel.

My older son at Penn does not qualify for financial aid and that is the only way to get money from Penn. However, my son #2 who is looking at UDel was able to get a nice merit scholarship, since we now have two in college, we are applying again to Penn for aid in hopes of getting something. We can only hope, he already had big student loans and is only in his 2nd year.

Mirabeau- with your SAT's and GPA- you will get a merit scholarship!

Our son graduated from the Wharton school of business at Penn in 2006. He attended on a merit based, full tuition scholarship all four years (provided he maintained a 3.0 GPA.)

Perhaps thing have changed since 2006?

My husband just informed me that his merit based scholarship to Dartmouth (1979-1983) included tuition, fees, room and board, plus a $250 yearly stipend to offset the cost of books.

Mom43 we have the opposite situation! My D attends UPenn and has received a generous scholarship/grant for the past 2 years. D #2 wants to go to UDel, but all they offered was the standard $3500 loan. Our hopes were dashed by UDel ... not sure what we will do at this point. Good luck at UPenn ... I bet you will be pleasantly surprised.

nerbsmom - I certainly understand "hopes being dashed" - our daughter was wait-listed by UD. We cannot for the life of us understand why. In any event, we paid the deposits to Carnegie-Mellon in the event she does not get a spot at UD (her first choice). It was a terrible blow either way.

Just curious, now that all the letters have gone out, did you get a Merit Scholarship offer? If so, how much?

nerbsmom- thanks I hope Penn will do something for us, I dont understand that with the two in school he would not qualify for some aid, his loans are scary but Penn was the only school for him, he was willing to take the loans.
He is very happy there, I am sure your D is too!

My other son is looking at UDel and Boston College, was waitlisted to Nova.
The thing is with the scholarship to UDel, I think he should go for it.
We are going to Boston this weekend so we'll see. They offered no aid except loan and work study.Good luck to you with D#2, it has been a long decision making process for us.
