Non-traditional chances, HELP!

I am 23, white, and female looking to transfer.

Highschool GPA: 3.7 (UW hardest classes)
ACT:29
SAT: 1360

College GPA:2.6 First 35 credits (five years ago)

I joined the military and now study Arabic.
College GPA:4.0 Last 45 credits (Defense Language Institute)

I am seperating from the Air Force within a month and should be moving to the DC area. I would like to return to college full-time and eventually get a PhD in Arabic. I believe that Georgetown and U of MD both have the best Arabic programs among the schools in the DC area. (what do you think?)

I will have good essays and ECs (I flew combat missions over Iraq and Afghanistan) and should get good LoRs.

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think my chances are?
Oh, and who has a better basketball team? I don't follow...yet
thanks, sara

well, maryland has the best women's basketball team in the nation.

great chances because of life experience and good recent gpa. if anything og to a md comm college have a 2.75 or higher gpa for like a semester or two and your guaranteed admission because of contracts in the state

mens basketball is pretty much even right now. UMD is ranked in the coaches poll while g-town is unranked so i guess umd is a little better as of right now. G-town just has a winning basketball tradition.

Womens basketball- All umd.

u got a 4.0 (older than 5 year's gpa are erased at UMD)
For transfer it's a little bit easier to get in than freshman, so if you have good rec's and everything else, you should be fine. Youre in

You come into a maryland's forum and ask for their sports, it's gonna be a little bias :D
For basketball, Maryland will beat georgetown by at least 20 points for the current men's team and at least 50 points for the women's. All other sports too.

maryland is in the ACC, it's the best sport conference, you'd expect to see great games.

I never knew this

ye if your instate in maryland an you go to a community college for i think its 1 year might be 2 and get a 2.75 theyre's some contract that guarantees you get in. dont quote me tho

^wouldn't be hard to believe, virginia has something similar. but i think the gpa is like 3.5 for va.

you seem like an awesome candidate for maryland. i mean, i'm no adcom, but i think those grades you got 5 yrs ago probably don't count for much. recently you've been doing great stuff in the classroom and out. i don't see why you wouldn't be accepted.

Thanks for the help.

UMD forgives crummy grades from over 5 years ago? That would be the best news I heard in a while.

yes gpa older than 5 years are not considered at umd

A 3.7 UW is hardly "Crummy"

You're in UMD. Possibly Georgetown.
