How hard is it to switch majors? When should I do it? I got accepted for Biology and English, but I want to switch to Computer Science and Business. Can anyone help me out? I’m worried it’ll affect my admission. Thanks.
There’s a form right on the portal and it’s a very easy process. I haven’t actually heard of it causing any trouble before.
I would say this though: If you’re making that drastic of a switch, have you considered doing the undeclared program to see options before picking a major? Are you firmly set in your current selection, and if so, why?
@PengsPhils Thank you for the help. So I am mostly CS focused. Most of my ECs reflect that. For all the schools I applied I did CS but for some reason I didn’t apply for CS at Northeastern. My resume and essays really reflect the CS and business aspect. I’m definitely set on this as my major. I just need to switch, but I don’t want to jeopardize anything. Any other advice is appreciated.
You won’t jeopardize anything, the absolute (and unlikely) worst case is they say no. Northeastern does not admit by major.
@PengsPhils Oh, that’s good to hear! If they say no, can I change during first semester? I really don’t want to pursue Biology. This would be bit of a deal breaker.
You can try to change at any point, yes. I don’t see why they would say no, but if they do then I’d reevaluate. But I don’t think it will get that far. Fill out the thing and give it some time before thinking more.
Curious, what makes one apply for English and Biology to only one school?
Update: I was able to change my major without any problems.
