So, currently I'm at a community college right now, majoring in English and Journalism, but eventually want to transfer to Northeastern. I'm pretty sure I'll get in, but what are the prerequisites I have to take at my CC (besides the regular humanities, math, etc) in order to get into their journalism program?

If you can’t find that information on their website, call them.

I was looking at northeastern too. What’s your gpa? Do you need a higher one than the avg because your coming from a cc as opposed to an equal school?

I have a 4.0 so far, but I’m scared that my credits won’t transfer or something or I didn’t get in because I didn’t take a certain course :/

Do you think if i have a 3.0 from a school equal to northeastern its not as good as a 4.0 from cc?

How competitive is journalism there? Isn’t business the toughest to get into at northeastern?

i think on the website you need at least a 3.0, but they’re probably expecting something higher if its a competitive major.

but what are their competitive majors? It said they look for 3.0 or over as most successful, I took that to mean there are some who get in below that? Why is it that easy cc applicants with inflated gpas have a better chance than a decent school with borderline 3.0?

Pacsun - If you do research on the school you will be able to determine what the competitive majors are on your own.

Insinuating that community college applicants are making it harder for four year transfers to transfer is probably not going to be well received on this forum. Especially using the phrase “inflated GPAs”.

I’m not sure anyone but an admissions person would be able to tell you for sure if they look at your GPA in the context of the school you’re coming from.

AMorrison- I’m not insinuating anything it’s just a fact that most cc are not comparable to larger universities in difficulty for a number of reasons, and yes that would inflate the avg gpa of transfers who applied there. And since many schools do not need to see your hs transcript, it seems very easy to coast through hs, get a solid gpa at a low cc, and get into many very good schools. That is why I asked if those applicants are more successful than a 3.0 at a large school. If you don’t know the answer, then there’s no reason to jump in.

I know the most popular majors and what are the most respected majors at northeastern, for instance business and communications, but many times the smaller, less-known majors are harder to transfer into, in fact there are small programs at northeastern on its website which say they don’t accept transfers for that reason.

I asked deetee what their thoughts are on that since deetee was trying for northeastern, and again you jumped in in a creepy manner without knowing the answer.

So…can anyone help me?

i was rejected as a transfer from BU to NEU. I was going for the school of engineering and they were difficult to get into. i had a 3.2ish GPA and i thought i would be a solid candidate but the schools getting more selective with transfers. I think as a transfer student requirements will be different among collges on what sort of requirements you will need to fullfill. I suppose for communications/journalism you would need upper level math and writing courses. You should try and get in touch with admissions.
