Northwestern Class of 2022 ED Discussion Thread

Does anyone know when the result for deferred students will come out?

Hi! If anyone sees this, do you know when the decision came out for regular and deferred applicants last year? Trying to get a sense of when I will hear. Thank you !

March 16 should be the date

hey y’all it’s me, the guy who suggested we make rejection memes. i got deferred and my birthday is next week, the 16th. it’s very unfortunate but oh well, it will make a good meme if i get rejected on my birthday. iconic

@helpmeimstressed I relate! I was also deferred and my birthday is on the 17th. Hoping we both get good news as gifts!

Just heard decision - denied for Industrial Engineering. SAT 1540, ACT 34, NMF, 4.43 WGPA, 3.92 UWGPA, 10 Aps (all 4 &5s)

Rejected after being deferred for Social Policy in SESP 1360 SAT, 4.3 WGPA, Full IB Diploma Candidate

Rejected after deferral. 33 on ACT, 4.111 W, 3.844 UW (my freshman year was the only one I didn’t get straight A’s, as well as a B in one class this year, although I took extra classes and almost all AP). I’m kind of crushed because I’ve wanted to go here for 10+ years and can’t even imagine going anywhere else.

I had excellent recommendations, fantastic essays (started writing them about a year in advance), a massive amount of community service (not just random, but specific, like volunteering to help handicapped individuals via equine therapy and tutoring underprivileged children on a volunteer basis all throughout high school for multiple hours every week), a job, legacy status, URM status, extenuating circumstances (serious illness, transferred schools multiple times, went out of my way to take college-level classes online), wrote an amazing deferral letter, scheduled an interview (which wasn’t provided), visited multiple times, had very focused hooks (played multiple instruments, sometimes in volunteer opportunities, and was concertmaster of a youth-level Symphony Orchestra for instance) - basically EVERYTHING that I could think of and accomplish given my circumstances. In fact, I was almost hospitalized last semester and collapsed from exhaustion because I wasn’t sleeping and was doing nothing but study, volunteer, and do extracurriculars.

My stats are somewhat under average but a girl from my school with a 3.4 UW and 3.7 W with a 33 ACT was accepted - for compsci engineering, too. She had far fewer community involvement things in her application. There’s been other people from my school accepted with stats far below average as well with no visible hooks.

I’m pretty devastated right now because this is really the only college I wanted to go to, but congratulations to all who were accepted! This is a pretty long rant, but I hope anyone else who was rejected after deferral can commiserate. I guess I don’t have to worry about that $70k+ cost of attendance now!

rejected - it was a reach tho, and I wasn’t expecting to get in

GPA: 3.83 W and around 3.74 UW
SAT: 1430 / 690 (reading/writing)+ 740 (math)

@ninanelso How was your why NW essay? Really surprised you didn’t get in, wondering what it was…

@iwslontsat I compared it to many other “Why NU” statements and thought it couldn’t have been stronger, and the admissions counselor at my school said she had never seen a better one, so I’m not sure.

Wow, that’s strange!

@ninanelso what school did you decide on?

Hey, did you end up sending your SAT score? I am in the same situation and wondering if the essay score matters at all.
