Deferred for Theatre. Seems like there’s a lot of deferrals this year. The only year they’ve posted stats on deferrals (as far as I can find) is 2009, which was the first year, so it’s probably not actually indicative of what it’s like this year. The first year they deferred 3.5% and accepted half of those, but this letter says “The admission committee anticipates offering admission to a small number of deferred candidates” which I probably means there isn’t a 50% acceptance rate for deferred students again. Maybe they’re moving toward a more Ivy-like model of deferral?
deferred (performance studies in school of communications). sad but grateful that there’s a possibility! congrats to everyone who got in, who was deferred, or rejected. we all should be proud of ourselves and know that it’s all gonna be okay.
Deferred; Weinberg. 4.0 unweighted: 1440 SAT. Good recommendations and essays, varied ECs with leadership. Curious about # of deferrals. ?. Congrats to those accepted and good luck to everyone who will now be applying elsewhere. ?
GPA: 3.3/4 (rough estimate because school doesn’t calculate GPA) at a “difficult” school.
1530 SAT.
I wasn’t a huge fan of my final common app essay but my guidance counselor said it was good. He didn’t allow me to send in my first draft but I liked that version more.
I was quite happy with my supplements but it seems like that’s the case with most people here.
Strong extra curriculum that really showed what I’m interested in.
Mediocre prescreening audition with strong live audition.
Asian-American.
Hook: a legitimate interest in moral philosophy which is apparently something that nobody wants to study anymore.
Two of my friends were also accepted. They both had strong SATs and strong grades. One is a varsity basketball player (not recruited), the other is a musician but didn’t apply to Bienen.
Hi friends- congrats to everyone that was accepted today! I am a second-year transfer student in SoC on the pre-med track, so if anyone has any questions about anything at all, please feel free to message me! Also, for those that were deferred, please do not give up if NU is still your first choice. Send admissions a letter expressing your continued interest, and keep them updated with any additional accomplishments/awards throughout the second semester of your senior year. For those rejected, I know it may sting for the moment, but remember that these feelings are temporary. I encourage you to open your mind to all of the possibilities out there and give it your all at whichever university you decide to attend- they will be lucky to have you!
D deferred - 4.0 gpa, 34 ACT, tons of extra curricular activities and leadership roles, top notch recommendation letters, essay was “different” but excellent … oh well.
Deferred; 3.97 UW GPA, 1500 SAT, multiple, varying extracurriculars each having leadership roles and all done for all 4 years, very good essays, good recs, legacy, APs, honors classes, top-notch high school… This seems strange. I’m reading the thread and I keep seeing similar results. Why does it seem Northwestern deferred SO many people this year? Like an unprecedented amount of people?
I was accepted to the college of arts and sciences and Beinin school of music. I applied for computer science and musicology majors. I had 33 ACT, As and Bs for grades, no AP’s, and a few EC’s. However, my EC’s are pretty much passions at this point, and they played a major role in my college process. If anyone has questions for me, pm or @ me here!
It seems like Northwestern is deferring a lot of people who are “textbook” applicants (4.0, insanely high SAT, good recommendations) and accepting a lot of students with less-than-perfect stats, which probably means they’re looking for something deeper in applicants. Idk what it is, but that’s frustrating for super book-smart applicants
Also, aren’t colleges required to post admission stats? Why hasn’t NU said anything about deferral stats in the last 9 years?
