Northwestern Early Decision

My son is likely to apply ED to NU as our family are "double-legacies". (My wife and my mom). Did anyone out there get accepted ED this year? If so, can you share your stats with me and which school you applied to? Thanks, Londondad

Here’s a link to this years ED Thread:

Good Luck!

ps: Londondad - You are looking at one loooong commute !:)

pps: PM me if you need anything further.

Nugraddad, no, I’m not, my son does!
Seriously, the flight to Chicago from London is only one hour longer than a flight to the East Coast. Plus, 4 airlines fly the route, so flights are plentiful. We also have family there, so he can just go there for Thanksgiving or Eaterr.

D was accepted ED with 3.9 unw. and 4.1 weighted, 33 ACT, 790 and 750 subject tests, 5 AP’s ( scored 5’ s on tests taken some are sr. year classes), several honors classes, well-rounded/leadership/sports, strong developed interests and outreach in literacy and unique in that she plays in an all guy rock band. Her essay was quite revealing as to who she was as a person and student and she probably had excellent teacher/counselor recs but IKD as our public high school doesn’t let you see them. I think the best thing she did was to establish a relationship with the representative for our state. He definitely knew who she was and knew how much she wanted to attend. When she emailed to thank him after she received her acceptance, he implied she was a slam/dunk.

I applied ED and am a legacy at NU. I know it for sure helped with ED, and I probably would not have been accepted if I applied RD - even with that hook. It would probably be best for your son to apply ED if he’s nervous about getting in, I was in the same boat and it paid off.

I could be wrong but based on the decisions I’ve seen over the years, being legacy only helps meaningfully if you apply ED. You’re right to consider applying ED if Northwestern is your first choice.
