Northwestern HPME Part 1

duddee. i know. =_=

14 days left. Let's hope that the Undergraduate decision comes out earlier!

i heard that undergrad decisions are posted online either the evening of the 25th or the 26th!!

Buckwald: Any info from the selection committee? Please keep us posted.

Hey, I haven't really heard anything lately. Last year people found out in the last week of march via snail mail, and I assume it will be the same this year. good luck to all!

yeah good luck everybody!

Hey all -- good luck to those of you who haven't found out yet!

I'm seriously considering HPME (still a junior in h/s) - I was wondering if anyone could quickly check out some noteworthy things about myself and see whether I have some sort of a shot at HPME (thanks in advance):

ACT: 33, still trying to get higher
PSAT: 212
SAT/SATII: Scores Pending

ECs:
-Student Council, Event Chairmen for various events the past three years, I'll be vice-president next year;
-Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Academic Team
-Medical Careers Club (Executive Board)
-Modern Music Masters Honor Society Vice President
-School Top Band, First Chair; City Youth Symphony Orchestra, District Honors Orchestra
(many, many more here)

Volunteer Activities:
- Medical Center/Hospital Oncology Department, past two years and next year
- Student Council, National Honor Society, Medical Careers (Community Events inc. Auctions, Senior Proms, visiting patients in hospitals, etc.)

And one last thing - last year I did a six-month semester-long research project on Emergency Physician Burnout in which I researched the problem and interviewed ER Physicians, Directors, and visted hospitals; I then took my findings and created a "all-inclusive" Physician-stress-recovery-method which I was able to present to ER Physicians/ER Directors.

Whew What do you think? Thanks again hugely.

You seem like an average HPME applicant. Only problem is that an average applicant doesn't make it in. It's great that you have showed ample interest in being a doctor, but maybe you should do some more service activities. Visiting hospitals and doing fundraising are pretty much bs, because they don't show your actual contact with the people, which is the most important thing. Try to do some more service activities to help the people (help the blind, senior homes, soup kitchen, habitat building, etc.) Otherwise, you look great-- enough leadership!

About academics --I don't know much about the ACT-SAT Conversions, but without your GPA, Class Rank, SAT I and SAT II Chem scores, I can't say anything for sure.

Hope this helps a little :)

It helps a lot - thank you.

dropping in to wish everyone luck. luck!

anyone think we'll find out this week?

Thursday March 31, 2005

E-mail or what? How do you know the exact date?

Thats what the department secretary informed me, when I called. I did not inquire about "snail mail" or e-mail. I will try again tomorrow. Buckwald should be able to give us some more info.

They will send snailmail to most people, except for some people living overseas, to whom they will send an email on the 1st of April.

I heard e-mail and snail mail will come.

All the better!

HPME has been very good to international students by taking the time to email them; I applied to Rice/Baylor's med program and I got the application only one or two days before the deadline - which was a bit of a turnoff.

[edit]

Ah, just to give you guys the heads up that intl's got/started to get their undergrad admit packets today. That might mean decisions are on their way for you domestics ;)

Did you end up applying to Rice/Baylor as well?

plushenko - "a bit of a turnoff" ... just a bit. Can't say I did real well on the application tho. Rushed the application essays - but at least got an early peek at the essay qs from helpful peeps on CC ;)
