Congrats on your acceptance!

does anyone know what northwestern's policy is on applying out to other med schools after finishing undergrad in hpme?
i know at some schools if you take the mcat and apply out, you have to be reevaluated at your guarantee school.

I'm pretty sure you can transfer out after taking the MCAT - this is what my host told me when I went for the interview.

Hey guys,
Definitely going to HPME next year, bioengineering, probably living at Bobb/McCulloch. Does anyone know exactly when these HPME meetingsa are? Hope to see some of you there.

Hey rickshawracer, I'm not gonna name any names, but I met you at the YES competition! We played pool with those girls, and we both ended up being terrible lol.

Anyways, I got into HPME and I'm ecstatic. I find it hard to imagine myself passing up NU and the program.

Anybody knows how difficult it is for HPMEs to be accepted into MSTP? NW only takes 10~12 MSTPs per year, yet one of the pages in HPME website makes it sound so easy.

what is MSTP?

medical science training program. it's a combined md/phd program and with hpme you can get all three degrees in 10 years....

I got back from NU yesterday. My time could not have been better because the weather was amazing! Anyway, at that meeting, there were 3 of us. . . I was hoping to meet more ppl; guess i'll just have to wait till next yr.

I hope you guys have a great time at HPME. I'm probably not going (financial reasons).

Hey guys, I saw alot of you guys are turning down the ivies for HPME. I wish I could definitively say the same. I am debating b/t HPME and Harvard. What are some of your reasons for turning these places down?
any help would be much appreciated.

why does it seem many ppl are considering or about to turn down HPME for other respective schools/programs... i knwo they only accept like 60 for a 50 person class is it? i've seen already like 10 ppl debating not to go to hpme... me included.. perhaps the class of hpme'ers this year will be a bit smaller? i'm just thinking to myself haha, cuz i kinda feel bad for the HPME program to not yield as many as it hoped to have

neel:
i was in the same dilemma, ivy vs. hpme. in the end i chose hpme for several reasons.
1. i love northwestern, always have. it's in a great area, the lake is beautiful, proximity to big city while still in a suburb. really friendly place.
2. it has a good engineering program, which is what i'm going to study.
3. the guarantee to med school is unbelievable. i'll have the freedom to take classes that maybe aren't guaranteed a's without having to worry about how my transcript will look to med schools.
4. no mcat
5. i still have the freedom to apply out and not lose my spot. you could apply to harvard med in a couple of years and if you don't get in, you still have a spot in a great med school.
6. i've talked to people in combined programs at northwestern and elsewhere and they really love them. you bond with your class and you have the ability to help each other without competing with one another
many more reasons, but these were the big ones.
hope it helps you decide.

Amit, I'm so sorry to hear that you may not be joining us in hpme. :( You really deserve to be here; however, i'm positive that no matter where you go, you'll excel. Personally, I believe the end justifies the means; you'll ultimately be a great doctor in whichever program you choose to participate in. Good Luck! I know you haven't made your final decision yet (i'm still hoping). I'll miss you if you don't take hpme, but if not, you gotta add me to ur facebook anyway!

Hey, maybe I'll transfer during Med. School. But anyways, sometimes in life you get what you emotionally want, but understand that it is rationally incorrect. I don't want to be far from home. I don't want to be $180,000+ in debt. I don't want my heart to direct me blindly. When I got my acceptance letters at both HPME and Rutgers BA/MD I cried - tears of lava burned through my cheeks. My number one choice…cursed. Life sometimes goes your way, but it is all a mere illusion. I hope you guys have a great time at Northwestern, and enjoy the opportunity. Yet, this is not the last you shall see of me. I know my future...I shall return...I shall be back....a page has turned, a chapter has begun, this is a new beginning.

wow hydrogen...that was deep...i sure hope we see more of you

neel IM me...its muthu...my sn is the same as the username
