Northwestern HPME Part 1

got my app!!!..wow that was really quick...

yay!!! i got mine too

how long by snail mail...submitted mine two days ago...

do they only take your first SAT? is that why there is only one date?

pipinghottofu: mine took about 1-2 weeks by snail mail

muchas gracias, sohni...

and risingsenior, i put down my best one sitting...i assumed that's what you were supposed to put, but idk

can someone please answer my question

so are we just suppose to write out sat scores in the request card or do we attach our collegeboard paper and forward our scores from collegeboard???????????????????????

write it on the request card...and forward it from collegeboard just to be safe.

phd, you should've already sent OFFICIAL scores from collegeboard for northwestern prior to the card (unless you just finished applying for regular undergrad. Northwestern wants a copy of all your scores.

i'm just kind of confused as to why the hpme application only require one rec. letter from an english teacher...

i didn't send my ACT/SAT II scores officially and I got an app....

well, to answer your question, they probably want an english teacher's recommendation letter because hpme likes people to be well-rounded. Thus, a person who is strong in science AND english is preferrable to a person who is just a science whiz. But don't quote me on this...

It truly doesn't really matter who you get a rec from as long as it's not a neg rec. I mean there's advantages to having a math/sci teacher and having an eng/hist teacher......so it geos bothw ays

HPMEs get a waive one of the freshman seminar requirements, which are writing-intensive courses that basically fulfill your writing proficiency requirement for Weinberg students. They want you to enter college with writing proficiency so that the waiver is justified.

"i didn't send my ACT/SAT II scores officially and I got an app...."

Same here.

Aspen D: On the HPME app it says that they want a English or Language Arts teacher to write you a rec, but that is specifically for the HPME app, not for ug NU app

Just to clarify

Oops. Sorry I read that as PLME not HPME. My bad!

i've heard that even with the essay, etc., they really just look at the stats....how true is this of hpme compared w/ other acc.med. programs?

I think you can kind of tell just by looking at the stats...for example, for Brown's PLME the SAT scores are lower than Northwestern's HPME, but presumably the same applicants apply to both (and perhaps even the more-qualified applicants apply to Brown's program). From this, one can reason that Brown looks more at unique experiences, the essays, etc. rather than just stats.

alright, I sent in my card about two weeks ago and got my application in the mail a couple of days ago. What do you think my chances are (i have pretty low test scores)
