Hey guys! I have an interview with my ED school, Northwestern, this Friday and I was hoping you could give me tips and any previous questions that the Interviewer might ask. Thank you all so much for the support!
So I went through the college application process last-year, and while it’s great if your interviewer is in the same field as you’re interested in, be prepared to explain your ECs and interests to them. Here are some brief tips:
- Be at least 5 minutes early (even if virtual, as they may have other interviewees scheduled after you) and make sure you're well-dressed (business casual is fine, just no rips or tears) Feel free to confirm with your interviewer if there's anything they want from you----while many will say they don't need anything, I have been asked to forward my resume before.
- Make sure to keep a clear glass of water with you, as it looks nicer than a water bottle. On a related note, make sure you're paying close attention and nodding every so often etc. as you don't want to appear distracted or not interested in the school.
- While most interviewers won't ask you this, some may ask you where else you're applying. My advice is not to say nothing or say everything, but just say you're also interested in x or y school (your in-state schools work great here,) but you're more interested in Northwestern b/c of a, b, and c.
- While you don't want to plan out your entire interview before hand, I found it helpful to read through my application/supplements close to the interview day to jog my memory on what I loved about the school and what programs etc. it offered.
This page from Penn has some helpful advice: https://admissions.upenn.edu/admissions-and-financial-aid/what-penn-looks-for/interviews
Good luck with your interview! At the end of the day, it’s not going to make or break your application, so just be yourself and see it as a way to learn more about the school from someone who’s actually went there!
Thank you so much PikachuRocks15!! This was very very insightful and I really hope anyone else who has this same question will see your amazing answer. Thank you once again and I feel much better on what to expect! Thank you!!
