Northwestern RD Class of 2022 Discussion Thread

I don’t think Northwestern does likelies. Haven’t received one if it does @“anotherbrickinthewall!”

Why the 16th?

It has been the 17th for the last few years, and this year the 17th is a Saturday, so people are expecting the 16th, but it’s just a guess

Who else ready for dat yung rejection letter 9 days from now.

I’m trying (and mostly failing) to stay optimistic but I’m ready for this to be over. I applied ED and was deferred so I have been waiting for a final decision since I originally applied at the end of October

@dogsrmylife I completely relate. I was also deferred in the ED round but I have my fingers crossed for the RD round. I heard that in previous years, about 50% of deferred applicants were granted admission so I hope that’s still true this year!

@senioritisIs yeah I heard Northwestern defers like only 1-2% of their applicants or something like that, which means that you all actually have a decent chance. I always assumed deferrals from Northwestern were like other schools where they defer like 50+% of the early applicants. I guess Northwestern is actually more like Stanford in their methods when it comes to making decisions about early applicants.

How many people here on CC were deferred? I haven’t read many entries, but didn’t see many people who were.

Does Northwestern send a mail with the date like uchicago or no?

@NUgraduate I was deferred

I was deferred too, fingers crossed for all fam

On the portal, it says late March.

Do you guys know if it is possible to change college from McCormick (Engineering) to Weinberg once at Northwestern, given that you choose a science major such as Physics or Computer Science at Weinberg?

@IlluminatiIsReal From what I hear Northwestern makes transferring majors and schools very easy. Since your not transferring INTO McCormick, it shouldn’t be a problem switching majors.

I’m also a deferred applicant. If my first semester grades were not good, should I just accept that I’m getting rejected?

@college3434 Well, the first semester grades didn’t help matters. But I don’t think you should assume that you will be rejected. This is a holistic process after all. It depends on what the rest of the RD applicant pool looks like, and how you compare. Sit tight and wait on it.

@psssthoy ok I am so stressed because I have been waiting since October

@college3434 Did you make any other changes to your application? New Test scores, awards, leadership position changes etc.

@jin2000 yes I did actually. were you deferred ?

@college3434 Then I think you still have a chance.

@jin2000 ok I’m still worried though because RD is a crapshoot
