Northwestern University Early Decision thread 2010

I’m from northern Indiana, close enough for my dad to commute to Chicago every day, and I already posted it once, but I’m hoping to get into SESP.

I’m from Massachusetts, and I hope I’m the only one from Mass

reppin’ CT

@imi1928 - Ahhhhh! Western suburbs of the Chi represent! Which suburb?

Turkey- I applied to McCormick.

Dupage county next to Glen Ellyn:) Where you at?

My daughter is from Zeeland MI and has applied to Weinberg, her boyfriend is also hoping to go to NU and has applied to Communication.

DuPage for the win - I live in Elmhurst! Omg do you go to GBW? I go to York :D

Oh so cool! no, i got to Willowbrook. I’m in VP:)

Nice! Haha this is so cool!

Omg guys, 17 days 'til the 15th! GET PUMPED!

JUST finished the css profile 2 minutes agoooo lol

ahh! so close. and yeah i finished that today too haha

What the heck does it mean when it asks you on the css profile how much you expect to pay for education next year? Isn’t that what this is for? I got so confused but I’m almost done.

CSS profile = a very boring 2 hours… but just finished :)

GOOD LUCK GUYS! Also, consider MMSS (application due later), look into that. Everyone going into business has an amazing success rate with that!

I know that confuses me too. And you are supposed to give them financial information that you won’t have until you do your taxes after the first of the year. Very strange.

So I just found out the funniest thing. One of my teachers that wrote a recommendation for me just got his PhD from Northwestern a few years ago. I’m hoping that helps a little bit!?

16 days!!!

Wow! That can’t hurt! I wish we knew some alum or had something to increase the kids chances. It’s so competive!!! Do you guys think that the kids who do ED are more likely to have higher ACT or SAT scores and better credentials in general than the ones doing regular decision? I hope my daughter has enhanced her chances doing ED and not hurt them! She got 30 on her ACT, has a 4.0 gpa and is in 3 AP classes and 2 Advanced classes. Her extra curriculars are pretty much sports, volleyball, basketball and softball. She also traveled to Europe to play basketball with People to People and attended Girls State this summer. What do you think her chances are? Good luck to all of you!

I don’t think her chances are that amazing, but she has a chance.

OK SO. I just found out I am an Illinois State Scholar… Um I did not put this in my application… Should I send the admissions office an email? Or how can I tell them I have this now… Through commonapp? Is it even necessary, or will it affect anything? Eeek!

Also, does not being able to pay much tuition affect your admission chances. My household only brings in 20,000 a year… and I heard somewhere that ED favors those who are well off…

Thanks!

Your daughter’s ACT score looks a tad low, but all her other stats look great, especially if she took some SAT subject tests and had good essays. The ED pool (I’ve been told) usually does have the more high-caliber applicants, but it also has a higher acceptance rate than RD, so I think she made the right choice. Plus, if they don’t want her in hands-down, they’ve been known to defer some people to RD, so it’s not a black-and-white-in-or-out situation right now. If she gets deferred, she’ll look really good compared to the other RD students, because the committee will know that Northwestern is her definitive number one.
