Northwestern University Early Decision thread 2010

also @erjeps: When people say ED favors people who are more well-off, they mean that ED is more likely to attract those who are financially more secure. My boyfriend’s number one school is Northwestern, but they gave him some sketchy answers about how much money they would give him, should he be accepted ED, and he has a brother only one year below us who needs to pay for college, too, so he didn’t feel comfortable making the commitment. Now he has to apply RD where the admission rate is lower.

What about my Illinois State Scholar thing?

I’d e-mail them. That sounds prestigious, and at this juncture, it definitely can’t hurt you.

Sorry to post so much, but do you guys ever have days that are just especially bad, waiting-wise? Because I’m going completely insane, moreso every day, I’m pretty sure.

Thanks for the feedback guys. That is pretty much what I’m thinking too, she has a chance, but not a real strong one. I gotta tell you as a parent, I just can’t picture her anywhere else. It is such a perfect fit. I’m sure everyone who visits wants to go there! This waiting is agony, but I am also dreading the day the decision comes. I wish they would let you reapply if you don’t make it!

yeah i fee lthe same way ^^ sometimes i cant beat the stress and i want a decision asap. i really hate the waiting sometimes.

@ erjeps. I found out I’m a state scholar too. im excited i wasn’t sure what to do about that as well

Woot! Illinois state scholars for the win! I’m emailing them too! Plus I just helped found a club at my school. We call ourselves the FDA (future diplomats of america). I’m putting that in the email as well.

I know… We’re cool…

P.s. For those of us in eastern and central time zones… 15 days including today!

good luck to all.

I keep thinking of Christmas gifts that are NU related, like tickets to their bowl game! It’s gonna be a drag if they don’t get in!!!

Applied ED like I promised a year ago. Haven’t been on here for a long time. Not really antsy about the decision, but I just want to know soon so I know whether or not I can dgaf next semester.

Two weeks!!

So close! I hope they come out sooner

they better! I can hardly wait!!

what majors did everyone apply to?
is Biological sciences particularly competitive?

I’m not sure. I’m mostly familiar with the difficulty of getting into a specific school. This may have been asked already but does NU take into consideration your major or just the school?

And I applied to SoC for Communication Studies!

Radio/Television/Film in the School of Communication!

Decisions are coming out the 13thh right?

Secondary Teaching and English in SESP :)

And yeah, most likely it’ll be the 13th, but maybe even the 10th or 11th!

@ erjeps: is BioScience in WCAS? Because I heard that’s the second most competitive after Medill.

Theatre in the School of Communication!
I haven’t seen any other prospective theatre majors on here which is weird, because it’s supposed to be super competitive.

Do we forsure hear by the 13th?? Keeping my fingers crossed!

I saw some references to the CSS Profile in this thread. NU says 12-1. Does that mean it must be done on or before 11:59 pm, 12/1, which is the normal way of intepreting this? I have been trying to track down balances.

I was wondering about this question, also. Somewhere -maybe in this ED thread? - NU’s need blind policy was mentioned and I would think that being too poor or rich would theoretically not matter in the admit decision.

HOWEVER,

if this is true, then why do they ask you to fill out financial aid forms BEFORE you know whether you are in or not (and while they still have your app in hand)?

If the ED acceptance percent is , say, 35 pct, then 65 pct of the ED applicants wasted their time in filling out the financial aid form.

another CSS PRofile (ED) question: on what basis did you all ('cause you have already answered this question by now, assuming you own a home) answer the question about what your home is worth ? Since the R E bubble burst, what is an accurate basis to use to answer this question?
