Not a comfortable scenario

Hi
I got into a college as a pre business major, not the business school that I intended.
Am I in a bad spot? Should I just move on?

Hang tight and see where you are when all the results are in.

In the meantime, check their website on how to move from pre-business to business school.

Is it really academically hard to move up? Wondering

Is this what you’re referring to?

“Some Wisconsin BBA students enter the Wisconsin School of Business through the pre-business process, applying in the spring of their first year for admission into the program beginning the following fall semester.”

–Do you have any direct acceptances into b-schools? If so I’d look at those options closely.

–Are you 100% sure you want to study business?

–Have you researched exactly what is needed to move from pre-business to the b-school (ex. minimum GPA, certain coursework)? Have you researched the odds of getting into the b-school from pre-business?

You’ll have to decide if it’s more important to be guaranteed a spot in a business school or to get your degree from UW Madison. Historically most students have entered the WSB through the pre-business process, so it’s not a done deal that you won’t get in. You’ll need to complete the 4 pre-business courses (communications part A, calculus, econ 101, and psychology), at least 24 credits, do well academically, and get involved on campus. The pre-business academic advisors conduct information sessions for students to help them navigate the admissions process, and pre-business students can attend SOAR with the WSB, and can come to the pre-business advisors for academic advising.

The other option is the PSU branch campus business school with the 2+2 program.

You have a place that you plan to take and an option that you reject at another school. Looks good to me. So why is this the worst day of your life?

Lots of schools admit to Pre-Business and it may not be a big deal - many simply require satisfying a set of prereqs with a minimal GPA prior to declaring the major. If this is your first school look at the details as it may be very feasible. If not, move on with your other options.
