So I'm an incoming sophmore and I messed up my freshman year trying to adjust to a college schedule. My major is Biological Sciences
Spring Semester:
English 1: A
Intermediate Algebra: B (Non transferable)
Geography: W

Fall Semester:
Gen Chem 1: B
Physics 1: B
Pre-Calculus: C
English 2: C

I currently have a 2.8 GPA and will not be able to apply for the UC Davis Tag. (TAG requirement for Biological Sciences is 3.2 gpa or higher)

If I am able to get A's in my summer and fall classes, and raise my gpa to at least a 3.3 will I have a good chance of getting into UC Davis?

Uhm they’re TAG’s aren’t evaluated til your fall grades are submitted. But you don’t have 30 units you have 27 so you’re in eligible for that reason.

They’re acceptance rate for transfers is 58.1%

I would complete EVERYTHING on assist.org if I were you and get all A’s in your remaining classes at least for fall and maybe a couple B’s in spring if you feel you need to breath.

But don’t give up, at the start of last fall I had a 2.11 GPA (I was doing really bad and I had 24 units completed) now starting this fall I’m going to have a 3.18 GPA because I pushed myself, UC’s love upward trends and I’m happy I did, it doesn’t matter if you get knocked down it matters what you do when you get back up.

Thanks for replying, I have AP Lit credits which count as 5.3 so I actually am eligible for a TAG, my GPA just prevents me from applying for it.

What I’m wondering is how good of a chance do I have of getting into UC Davis with a 3.3, considering people are guaranteed acceptance with a 3.2.

One more thing, it’s recommended but not required for me to complete the entire Biology series (2a/2b/2c) and Organic Chemistry. If I plan on taking Ochem or the last Biology at the UC instead of my CC, does that hurt my chances?

Davis isn’t very competitive compared to LA, SD or Berkeley people get in all the time with a 3.0 so a 3.3 should be good.

Whose recommending them? Assist?

Yeah, the recommended courses are according to assist.org

See how you did in your summer classes, alongside how well you perform in the Fall. You already have an upward grade trend from grades that include a W and an F to C’s and B’s. Community college can be a hard transition, and everyone takes different amounts of time to adjust. My first two semesters of CC look almost identical to yours GPA-wise. My second year I really took a good look at my study habits and goals, and stepped up my game. I ended up taking a third year, this upcoming year, at CC- frustrating, but I am much more confident in my academic abilities and skills.

Apply this year to Davis and perhaps a few other schools, and see what happens. Perhaps spend some time on assist looking to see if you would be eligible to apply as other majors at different UC’s as well.

Even if your admissions outcome is not what you want, while disappointing and frustrating, it could actually be an opportunity to finish pre-reqs and continue to raise your GPA. If you are able to raise your GPA to a 3.2-3.3 level by the end of Fall, I would say that you definitely have a fighting chance!

So I just got an A in my Summer Calc 1 class, now my transferable gpa is up to 3.0!

Thanks guys for giving me faith, I’m determined to get all A’s in my fall semester. (It’s a tough one, Gen Chem II, Calc II, and Bio 1 all in the same semester) and bring my gpa up to 3.38!

Wish me luck!
