I am literally so scared I will not get into college. I have a 2.5 unweighted gpa and a 3.5 weighted. I took AP Psychology my sophomore year and I was typically an A-B student freshman year with one C. Sophomore year was A-B and one C. Then Junior year pretty much all B and one to two C’s. I got a 980 on my SAT. School Is just not my thing I have interests and goals, I don’t think I’m dumb I just have trouble focusing on things I have no interest in. Is there any advice from someone who has been a poor student and gotten into decent colleges? I would like to go to ASU, as I am in state.
What are your interests and goals? If school is not your thing, then why not focus on what you are interested in? Do you need college to accomplish your goals?
Your SAT is too low for ASU as it stands https://admission.asu.edu/first-year/apply
I agree with the poster above, it’s possible school just isn’t your thing and you can find success in a field that doesn’t require a degree. Alternatively, if you feel it’s just that you haven’t been interested in what you’ve done so far and feel that you might become a better student as you mature, then maybe you can explore starting off at community college and transfer into a four year college later. Do you have any idea what type of career might interest you?
@SJ2727 If ASU goes by weighted GPA, the OP may meet the requirements for admission. Only one of the criteria you referenced needs to be met. I do agree that community college might very well be a better way to start.
Attend community college or trade school depending on your interests.
I just want to own my own business.
I can also retake the SAT or ACT as I’m still only a junior
An, I misunderstood, thanks for the correction.
You don’t necessarily need a 4 year degree for that, but definitely look to do courses in business management. (I assume CCs will offer something like this?) My husband used to mentor small business owners, and a common problem was that they would be excellent in doing whatever business they were in, but had no idea how to run a business (working capital management, inventory management etc).
You’ve got some work to do, but you still have the rest of your Junior year left and the first part of your Senior year. Understand not doing well in areas that you’re not interested in. You either need to figure out how you can succeed in some of these “not interesting” classes or get some support. You still have a story to tell if you can lift up your grades and show a trend of improvement. Study and re-take your SATs. Write a good essay, perhaps talking about your concentration issues and what you’ve done to work on it and the results. You can still do it.
Alternatively, even if the above doesn’t turn out to plan, CC is an excellent option for you to find something that you enjoy in a more relaxed environment. Get your Associate’s degree and then transfer to a 4 year school with 2 years complete. You’ll save money as well as figure out what interests you and put you back on track. Good luck!
@BreannaManning Retake the SAT - doesn’t hurt to try again and see what tripped you up on your prior attempts. Also, just because one person says: “your SAT is too low for (insert school name” doesn’t mean you won’t get in. Today’s playing field for the college admissions process demands for things outside of the standardized test realm, specifically extracurriculars. Prove to the school you are looking at that instead of following the trend of just focusing on GPA and standardized tests, you created your own business model this summer and put it into action. Practical experience is more important than you think. Best of luck to you. Defy the odds.
