Not One Day off from Labor Day to Thanksgiving?

No fall break at UT? Not even, say, a three-day weekend for Columbus Day?

Yeah, that's a bit of a rough stretch. Sometimes you're lucky and the fire alarm goes off.

Fire alarms don't happen often, this isn't elementary school anymore. People end up skipping most of Thanksgiving week and teachers hold non-mandatory "review" sessions that you are not expected to go to. I have 3 day weekends every weekend, so I am not complaining.

Midwestmom2 kids,
I think the issue is that since about 80 percent of the student body lives within a 3 1/2 hour drive of home, most people have an opportunity to go home at least once a month. That's probably why the administration thinks a fall break is unnecessary.

They are in Austin, there are nearly 50,000 young intelligent students with thousands of distinguished professors, restaurants activities good weather... not sure one needs a break from that

i am in austin right now helping my son move in tomorrow, he is trying out for band,, my 'break is coming to Austin :)

I think my daughter will miss us between when she goes down to Texas on August 24 and the last day of finals on December 16. We will miss her! I hope it works out that she is able to come home for Thanksgiving (connecting flights, possible snowstorms) but if she can't, there are only three weeks left til the end of the semester.

MidwestMom, Thanksgiving Day is the day we play A&M...so I don't know if that would change any plans at all, but that's kind of a big deal--it's the biggest game in Austin of the season.

Midwestmom, my oldest goes to Florida, so I feel your pain. The first year he came home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break and the whole summer. Now that he's a senior, he came home for one week in July and he won't be home again until 1 week at Christmas. He doesn't really think of our home as "home" anymore, it's more like he's visiting...
That is why I'm pleased as punch that my middle chose UT, it's a 2 hour drive home. I'm trying to brainwash my youngest that UT is THE place to go too;)!! lol.

Going far out of state is a bummer in the visiting department, especially if the town is inconvenient and has ridiculously expensive airfares!!

You should try to plan a trip to Austin on a game weekend, it's a blast, and I'm sure your daughter would love to see you mid semester!
