I want to go to UCs so badly. I took the SAT II for Spanish and Chinese getting a score of around 710s (I forgot exactly). Will this exemplify* ( not sure if I used this term correctly haha) me from taking 2 years of foreign language class!?!?!

I am a senior, involve in a club, and co-founded a club, in cross-country for 3 years and swim 1 year, I play piano, SAT score of 2100, ACT score of 33, SAT II subject test for U.S History, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Math, writing with good scores, took 4 AP classes in junior year and 6 in senior year with 2 honors classes total, average of 3.8 GPA

I think it depends on what you are replacing for the Spanish and Chinese. If one of these languages is your home second language, then I think they’ll look hard at your class schedule. The UC’s are uber competitive. If you’re from OOS they will probably accept you but understand that you will be full pay. Did you finish high school? If you’re in CC, that’s another ball game now.

What do you mean “OOS”? And no, I am still in high school! I took the tests in my Junior year!

“Exempt” is the term you are looking for. Are you saying you didn’t take foreign language classes at all in HS? It seems possible that English was in fact your second–or third–language? Not sure how that plays out in UC admissions. For places outside of CA, it is likely that demonstrated proficiency in two languages would make up for not taking the classes, as long as you took something else that they view as worthwhile instead.

OOS means “out of state.”

I have no idea how to speak Chinese even when I am Asian. Chinese and Spanish are languages that I self-studied and it was so hard. And no I am not outside of state. Now I am really nervous.

Yes, I did not take any foreign language class in High School because of my classes ( I am really busy.) But my test scores are good and my extra-curricular are sufficient enough ( I hope) It is just that I did not take any foreign language class! My GPA is also good (I think.)

So do you think that this will exempt me?
I am aiming towards CalTech, UC Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, Pennsyilvania State University

If you got a 700+ on the Spanish and Chinese tests, then according to the UC site on A through G requirements, you should have met the “language other than English” requirement:

[University of California - Subject requirement](<a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors)

Two years (three years recommended) of the same language other than English. Courses should emphasize speaking and understanding, and include instruction in grammar, vocabulary, reading, composition and culture. American Sign Language and classical languages, such as Latin and Greek, are acceptable. Courses taken in the seventh and eighth grades may be used to fulfill part or all of this requirement if the high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses.
SAT Subject Test

The following scores satisfy the entire requirement:

Chinese With Listening: 520
French/French With Listening: 540

THANK YOU! I am safe then!!! So I have equal chances to those who take 3 or more years of language right?

Bump! Er, so I have equal chances to those who take 3 or more years of language right?

You should not be asking total strangers on an internet chat board for official admission requirements for a school. You need to be contacting these schools directly to verify.
