For the 2016-2017 school year, I know Berkeley, for the first time, notified 2000 applicants that they had been admitted to the school in mid-February. Does anyone know if this “early notification” will also happen this year?
My D in 2014 was notified in mid-February as was another student at her school last year. Both were regent scholarship candidates. I’m not sure if that’s what you are referring to or some other new policy.
I’m not sure…I believe that it is what I’m talking about?
This is what I’m referring to: “For the first time, UC Berkeley will be providing some student applicants with early notification that they have been admitted. While most prospective freshmen will learn of their admissions decision March 24, up to 2,000 students will be informed of their acceptance to Berkeley on Feb. 12. This group of high-achieving students will include students selected to interview for Berkeley’s most prestigious scholarship, the Regents’ and Chancellor’s Scholarship.”
That is from this Berkeley news article published earlier this year: http://news.berkeley.edu/2016/01/11/more-than-100000-students-seek-admission-to-berkeley/
@wormholes it’s difficult to tell what is new about the early notification as described in the info you provided. Maybe additional students who are admitted but not scholarship candidates? My D received an email on Feb 11 2014 saying she had been “assured admission” and she was a Regents Scholarship candidate. She did not get the scholarship but is attending UCB.
@svlab112 Hmm ok…thank you very much!!
They do it every year for Regents’ candidates for Berkeley (and LA). It was Feb 12 for c/o 2020 so it’ll be Feb 13 (most likely). Only Regents candidates get it, and then you’ll sign up for an interview, and find out if you’re Regents the day everyone else finds out their admission decision around March 23/24!
@iamsaucy Oh thank you!!! Ahh I’m nervous now
@iamsaucy were you a regents candidate? how exactly do they pick the candidates; is it based purely on stats?
@wormholes yes! i ended up getting regents at berkeley and la. as far as i know, stats are kind of like the basics but what differs between a regular acceptance and being chosen for candidacy is how you present yourself in your essay most of all, and your ecas. i heard that you get candidacy based on faculty/officers reading your app and finding it notable enough to pick out.
my stats were pretty good and my ecas were above avg (not spectacular) but i worked really hard on my essays so hopefully that helps
