can anyone tell me what the website is to check status of nrotc scholarship. my son is waiting to find out and hasn’t heard anything yet.

Here you go Kylemom:
https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/status_scholarship.aspx
That should take you to the sign on screen. Good luck to your son!

Has anyone heard the results for the Marine-Option ROTC scholarships? My packet was submitted in time for the first board but i haven’t heard anything yet. I contacted a PMS at my top school and he hadn’t heard either (called just before Thanksgiving). I’m just anxious to know one way or the other…

In case anyone is interested, we found out about our son’s NROTC sholarship, via the website, on Thanksgiving day, and it took until yesterday (4 weeks) to receive the official offer letter in the mail. Last bit of waiting will be for acceptance to the school – probably won’t hear anything until late February (sigh).

Congrats again CronusMom to you and your son!!! Good luck with the acceptance.

To CronusMom and others who have received the NROTC: We also found out about the NROTC scholarship on Thanksgiving Day by looking at the website. And like you, my son received the packet on December 23rd. The letter had to be sent back right away. He has the principal nomination to USNA as well. He accepted the NROTC as his back up plan. He is already accepted to VMI. I read somewhere that one parent had his son write a letter to the ROTC declining the scholarship and the parent mailed it on July 2 after I-Day.

What do most students do? Is this the standard procedure?

I read a similar thread, NewNavyMom, about waiting to decline the NROTC scholarship until after I-Day. Doing so would be like an insurance policy in case something unexpected happened where the student could not make it to Annapolis in July (broken leg for example).

If he had already declined the NROTC scholarship, what would happen? Would some quick phone calls to NROTC and the college be able to reinstate the scholarship and get him in the unit? By then, that unit could and probably would be filled.

Our son has received Congressman Steny Hoyer’s nomination and his high school NJROTC unit nomination for USNA. He returned his contract accepting the NROTC scholarship and will work out his decision if/when the Academy offers him an appointment. For our son, the choice between the Academy and Va Tech is not crystal clear. We see it as an honor to have such outstanding choices, but we know our son will be giving it a lot of thought trying to make right choice for him. It’s not easy, that’s for sure.

my son is also waiting to find out about the marine- option rotc scholarship…getting very frustrated. his recruiter told him he should know by the beginning of january. i check the web site daily but no news yet!!! good luck!

hello everyone! I submitted my online application before the deadline(for the scholarship) in December (the deadline on which the board met to decide who got the scholarship). My recruiter actually set up my interview before I completed and sent out the app. He also said every month my application is re-evaluated. So far, my app status is still being processed. Does this mean if I don’t get the scholarship in December, I still have a chance to get in January? Or does this mean that I won’t get the scholarship at all but the board is deciding on whether or not I can do the NROTC program in general? Thanks!

^^^
If you are not selected by a scholarship board and are competitive for a NROTC scholarship then your application is reviewed again at the next board…and the one after that (if there are more) and all future boards until all the scholarships have been awarded, the boards are finished or your application is no longer considered competitive. If your application is not going to be reviewed by the next board you will receive a letter advising you that unfortunately you were not awarded a scholarship and inviting you to still join NROTC (as a non-scholarship mid) at whichever college you decide to attend. The same letter is sent out after the last board meets to those that don’t receive a scholarship. Good luck!

Hi, New to the forum…waiting to hear like others on here. Is there a deadline for when the last board meets for 2012/13 class? If the application is not going to be reviewed at all, are you saying they will notify you via a letter? Is there any place to check other than just waiting and seeing? I logged back into NROTC and it says it is being reviewed.
Thanks

If it says under review then all you can do is wait. good luck to you.

My app status says that my app has been received and processed. IT also says No Decision has been made. What does this exactly mean?

Hello all! I am new to this forum. S1 received notice online that he has received a four year scholarship to his second choice school. YEAH! However, here is my question. We won’t know if he got into his first choice school until March. What are the chances that he will get a NROTC scholarship there? What are his options?

First, I would suggest you go to the site [United States of America Service Academy Forums - Powered by vBulletin](http://www.serviceacademyforums.com) under ROTC subforums - there are many experienced ROTC posters there.

Your S will only get one NROTC offer; it sounds like it is to his 2nd choice school. The folks at serviceacademyforums can spell out your options better than I, but I think you will learn: there are fewer scholarships being awarded this year & the Board has a balancing act between applicants, costs at different schools, majors and Navy needs. This means it is POSSIBLE, though not necessarily likely, that your S could transfer his scholarship to his #1 school if he is accepted there.

The important thing is to accept the scholarship, then decide how to move forward (ie go to 2nd choice school, try to transfer scholarship, turn scholarship down, etc). Acceptance is not a commitment. He can go for one full year on the scholarship, decide he doesn’t want it and owe nothing.

I hope this helps - and congratulations! My DS has been accepted for NROTC 4 year scholarship also!

@ brpemery: My understanding from past years is that the NROTC Board meets through April.
